Would a boom work?
Hey peoples have a new 2hp dusty just wondering if anyone has made a Boom I have a 2 bay shed and was looking at making a boom over the CNC then thought why not create a telescopic boom that I could move around the shed so I could just move it to the Table Saw, Drop Saw, Router table etc that way I wont have to run a crap load of pipework around from what I understand doing so so you lose a fair amount of suction.
This would also allow me to move equipment around ) pull the table saw out to the middle bay for sheet work etc.
Dusty will be moved outside eventually, otherwise I would just wheel it around to each bit of equipment.I like to move it move it, I like to move it.

Here's an example of a dust collection "boom" called an "elephant trunk" that we scored for the Men's shed. The flexy elbows and connection flanges were stuffed and have been repaired. These ones were designed to collect fumes over chemical laboratory benches but at the shed the intention was to locate them power tools being used on work benches. They're waiting for me to install them it's not an easy job.Given my health and that I hardly go there, and that I reckon someone else should have a go, they have not been installed.IMG_1991.jpgThese ones operate vertically and rely on having a high ceiling height. Even though they are quite rigid I doubt they would work horizontally.Easier than a boom would be flying fox lines with loops of flexy supported from the line. However the long lengths of flexy will seriously stymie the flow especially if only a 2HP DC is used.Frankly I reckon while a DC remains inside the shed fine dust collection is a waste of time. Instead of spending time setting up a boom, I would put the time into putting DC outside, modifying the DC to fully utilise 6" ducting, and setting up permanent 6" ducting. This will provide maximum flow - do it once and do it right.
