2)The motor has a fan for cooling, this fan takes air from nearby the motor and forces it over the motor. The air nearby the motor is a pool of air inline with the dust extraction system and is therefore continually being replenished from the air in the workshop, at workshop temperature, and then exhausted . The very same air that up until recently bathed the DE without a cabinet wall in between. Do you not see it is not a closed system?
If the cubicle is airtight and the exhaust is external where does the air for cooling come from? Sorry about the mistake on the bags, but filters do exhaust dust even the best of them.

If we have a 100mm line pulling air out of the guard then we need an equivalent amount of air going in or we have no air flow and that little point is what most miss. No air flow means the dust drops out of suspension and drops on the table and once it is there then it stays there as a rule.
Only the big chips stay on the table, the significant air flow from the spinning blade sprays the fine stuff around the room.

Cubicle is airtight only to the shed but vents to the outside - if you read his very first post he talks about venting it to the outside through the roof.

When you're done, it maybe worthwhile introducing a workshop air extraction fan. https://www.woodworkforums.com/f200/w...84/index2.html

Ah Zelk - you were the guy I was referring to recently in another post on enclosures. How is your setup going?

A 1000+ cfm DC will pull a lot more dusty air from a shed that a simple air extraction fan. If a shed is semi-air tight, perhaps more importantly are some vents in a shed wall that pull air and dust from dead spaces. The advantage of an air extractor is that they are usually a lot quieter and less power consumptive than a DC.

    Hi Bob,
The set up, https://www.woodworkforums.com/f200/r...n-sound-46103/, is doing well, I just love the reduction in noise. In addition to the wall mounted fan, I have also simplified the ducting issue, https://www.woodworkforums.com/f200/c...t-gate-111062/, and modified the vanes within the dusty's hoop, both of which I have yet to fully assess. I am sure there will still be some fine tuning but this is now as far as I go with regards to dust extraction, it's time to do some woodwork.

    Sounds very good.
Are you seeing any dust outside the workshop?

Can't say I have, we get a bit of a breeze along that side of the house.

Managed to get some time this afternoon and installed the 8" duct and the 8-5-5 bifurcation. Have found that I can fit a 4" flange to the saw guard so will be doing that. There is little point in upgrading the 4" duct within the saw cabinet, it connects to a saw blade dust shroud via a constricted opening which will require a rebuild to take advantage of a 5" duct. But I have been thinking of adding another 5" outlet to the cabinet. I've also been thinking of adding a 5" outlet just below the bottom bearings of the BS and a 4" inlet to the bottom door to give better flow to the other 4" outlet on the BS. At the moment it screams terribly so I think the design is too constrictive.

Had some more time today to install the combo machine drop, gates and flex and the run across to the far side of the workshop. All just roughed into place awaiting a second pair of eyes to do the final adjustments and screw/tape off. Pretty happy with how the ducting works around the combo machine. I upgraded to a 4" duct to the guard. Still have to do the plastic windows in it perhaps add a hairy skirt.

My plan to access cheaper 6" ducting has come to a nothing. I have 1 x 6 m length of 6" flexy which should be enough to hook up two machines but otherwise it looks like I'll be using 4" flexy for the others..

Yes, once you start cutting that flexy up, it doesn't go as far as you'd reckon. I have to go buy a few metres more.

    Hi Mic,

Great setup. Thanks for posting, good reference info. The Bill P. site has me falling asleep when I start to plough throug it. Seeing another application on the forum is always helpful.

Will end up rereading all the forum member dust extraction threads when I am ready to do mine.

Keep us posted on performance when finished.

    Cheers
    Pops
