Instructions on how to do it on the H&F DC-7
Remove the Phillips head screws holding the inlet panel
There is a metric hex head screw holding the impeller on. NOTE The screw has a reverse thread, clockwise to undo.
Small puller required to remove fan, but has a lip machined in to catch on for removal
    4 x 10mm bolts (14mm socket and extension)
    Rotate 90 degrees
    bolts back in and tighten
Make sure keyway is in place and gently tap fan back on squarely
    put front plate back on
The bold bit is what I forgot when I pulled it apart to replace the bearing which had gone, so I stripped the head (mine was a cap screw with an Allen key head). I drilled the head off and got the screw out easily enough but finding a replacement was more tricky.

I eventually taught myself some basic thread cutting on the metal lathe and made my own (I have a bin full of the early, failed attempts). Even after making a screw, I still don’t know what the thread size is - it’s smaller than M6, but only just, with a 1mm pitch. Sort of closer to 7/32” but not quite that either, because that would be 28tpi. An M6 doesn’t even fit through the washer. I basically turned it down to just below 6mm, and kept cutting the thread, reducing the diameter until the washer just fitted.

Long story short, it’s working again and sucking well. I’ve got so used to having clean air while working that I avoid turning unless it’s working properly.

Hi Delbs, have you taken delivery of your Woodfast? If so, any feedback?

I am looking for a 3HP unit, and since I'm in Adelaide I am tossing up between a Ledacraft model (~$600) or the Woodfast. Just wondering if it's worth the extra $200?

    Cheers,

    Michael

Ive just recently received the woodfast model too. I have nothing to compare it too but it seems to run quiet and pulls a lot of air. I went for it due to the impeller size giving more hope of moving more air. If you have any specific question on the unit I can try to answer as well.

Thanks Ian. No specific questions. I was just wondering if the larger impeller and the different mounting arrangement would make a noticeable difference when it came to air flow. I expect that unless someone tests them side-by-side we will probably never know for sure.
