Default Cyclone Dust Separator Collector, Are these any good?

    Hi,

Noticed you can get cheap Cylone Dust Seperators on eBay now, just wondering if they are any good or should they be avoided? It will be used with a stihl vac, I think it is around 27L in capacity. I mainly want to use it with a sand blasting cabinet and sometimes wood working tools. When in use I will locate them outside the shed. What are you thoughts?

    Thanks

For $33, it's got to be worth a try!

Or you could buy one off an Australian seller, who is a forum member and provides fast postage with tracking and fitting advice and support. I've sold over 600 of these, demonstrated them at various venues and assisted countless woodies to get the right result at the right price. Pay less if you contact me through the forum. Unfortunately though I don't sell ladies fashion accessories!

And yes, if installed correctly they do work so well you will find it unbelievable.

    Cheers,
    David

I have one of David's cyclones and find it works extremely well. Below is a photo of how I originally set it up, but I have since mounted the bucket above the vacuum and used PVC pipe to connect the vacuum to the cyclone. I found I needed to do this as the ribs inside the hose was creating high pitched whistling sounds which was unbearable, whereas the smooth bore of the PVC takes it all away. At least 95% of the dust etc ends up in the cyclone.

I must admit that I didn't know David sold these. A lot cheaper than the Dust Deputy!

Is it still a good idea to use a bag for the vac or can you do without this?

My understanding is that you still need to retain the filter bag to capture the particles a cyclone misses, but the effect is to vastly reduce the load on the filter bag. The bag will be capturing the finest particles.

    David, PM sent.
