Duravac Maxum
I'm seeing these advertised for about $330, not bad for 'M' class and a filter shaker, are they a viable alternative to the more expensive brands with similar features? (you all know who I'm talking about )

Looks like a smaller lower powered unit than I expected, only 800W motor and 18 kPa (the Ryoby W&D vacs are 22 kPa and the more expensive brands is 24kPa)
800W for the vac leaves a decent 1200+ W for the power tool so that is something.
Washable filter is a plus, but bag size is on the small side but would probably be OK for something like a ROS?

That’s not a lot of money, compared to the others.
If it is what it says it is then that’s a great price. Go on, buy one and test it out. Please report back.
Cheers

There's just one catch...no power socket for a tool, it's a vac only.

Even though I have my WW DC connected up to collect metal dust from grinder sea finishers I use my shop vac much more more for metal work than I do for WW.
When I work with Al I tend to use Meths in a squirt bottle as a lube coolant. When I finish I leave it for a few hours so the meths evaporates leaving all the dry swarf behind to be sucked up with the shop vac.

"And if you never need to give the filter a good deep clean: simply remove the filter and place it in the dishwasher!"
I don't think I would risk that. And no, it's not the dishwasher being harmed that I'm worried about.

Apparently these filters are made to cope with this - they will of course revert to an unconditioned state so need to be reconditioned before they achieve their rated performance which seems a tad pointless. Maybe that process would be useful for removing something sticky/oily that has got onto the filters.

Bob I think dmorse is more concerned about his wife’s reaction if she finds out he cleaned filters in the dishwasher than what would happen to the filter.

If I ever come to Perth we'll go out for dinner.
