Thread: Dust collector help pls

The motor may be a 5hp motor (750w=1hp), but I doubt that it will move much more air than your standard generic 2hp unit, as it still only has a 12 inch impeller.

Perhaps move post to the Dust Collection section to get some further input although I think the above answer sums it up.

Its a 5HP but its only a 12" impeller so its not going to move any more air than a 2HP unit.

6" is significantly better than 5" ducting and well worth installing.

If you can affording and have the space a stock standard twin filter 3HP will significantly outperform a single filter stock 2HP DC.
Better still (if you can afford it) is a 4HP Cleavue although given the size of your shop and machine fleet you can get away with something smaller.

Even with the same size impeller twin bags have significant benefit fo reduced resistance and longer times needed between filter cleaning.
Sorry I should have mention d that for the 5HP unit you referred to above.
Better still would be two Pleated filters.

A stock 2HP DC is somewhat restricted in its ability to grab enough dust at source.
Have a look at the Sticky at the top of the dust forum to see how to modify it to get something close to adequate performance out of it.
If you can't be bothered doing this I would suggest s a 3HP twin bag DC.
