dust extraction
Hi woodies
I need to get my extraction sorted and have been looking at a couple of extractors. I want to put the extractor outside the she'd in its own little shed, backing onto the wall against my lathe. I need good air flow because of the longer piping.
Carbatec have two advertised 2HP. One is economy at $299 the other is tradesman at$599
As far as I can tell the tradesman provides better airflow because of
" A specially designed motor housing and impeller give this machine maximum performance. The high CFM rating you get with this machine (1500cfm) means that you get the most for your money. Nee e A specially designed motor housing and impeller give this machine maximum performance. The high CFM rating you get with this machine (1500cfm) means that you get the most for your money."
My question is, what designfactors would do this, and would it be worth paying double le the price

Take the plastic hose inlet combiner and have a look at the impellers side by by side.
You will see why I bought the more expensive model. Mate has the cheaper model and has bent his impeller.Kev

The cheaper impeller will be a container with a fan in it. The other should be better sealed with smoother internal panels/seams and better flow lines. This will create a greater pressure difference which is what generates flow.
The ratings provided by almost all manufacturers rating will be without any ducting and clean bag. In practice the cheaper one cannot generate sufficient pressure so by the time the bags get clogged and ducting is added expect about half that. The better ones will deliver around 2/3rds of their claimed flow rates.
BTW what size ducting do you intend on using. 4" ducting can only conduct about 400 cfm at normal dusty pressures. To get the most out of your 2HO unit you really need to go to 6" ducting
