Thread: Dust Hood For Bosch Glide Saw

Thought I'd throw my belated effort into the ring as well. It's been in the gunnado list for quite some time, but wasn't until I finally got around to doing the bench for it that I tried replicating Chris's design. Here 'Tis:

Full marks to Chris, because there's nothing here that was really designed by me. apart from knowing how big the saw is, the dimensions were governed mostly by the size of off cuts I had lying around! But it works, amazingly well. One thing I did do was cut a scrap of Masonite board to fit around the base of the saw, which ramps from behind the fence to the plenum. I'll take some pics tomorrow. Prior to adding that it worked ok, but I was blown away by how much more effective it became. My saw is missing the dust tube and flexible boot, so it sprays swarf everywhere, but with the base board in place it picked up all visible dust on a 90° cut, and was still getting most at 45° mitres. And this was with less than optimal suction, as I still had open duct to the Minimax combo.

Here is the added ramp to the plenum, which made a big difference for me. The Bosch dust tube arrived today and I've fitted it, but it needs 38mm ID hose so I was unable to connect it to the Shop-vac. It actually appeared more effective without the tube fitted, because the swarf that hits the tube goes straight up the tube and scatters. Still way better than the fertiliser spreader the saw was before.
