Any experience with Filtrair Australia dust extractors?

Been offered one of these Filtrair Australia Dust extractors to buy. Model Number HT 3500. Not much info floating around aside from where they are made. Locally, here in SA which is good. No longer made. Not sure on the impeller size.

4KW CMG motor, two pleated filter units. Runs on 3ph plan on swapping motor to 3hp single phase (already have it) but I know that will severely reduce airflow but have capacity to run the 4kw motor on a VFD and would rather do this. I've decided to rent my place out for a few more years so i'm currently in a long term cheap rental therefore I can't go doing anything too crazy and permanent. The landlord upgraded the Shed lighting and power supply for me prior to taking the lease which was nice of them. There's a garden shed behind the main shed that could fit this unit if I made a lower laying base for it. I doubt these pleated filters are going to be much good when dealing with a 25" dust making drum sander.

Will have pvc 150mm ducting to everything. Table saw which has 4" cabinet port and 4" overhead. Two 4" on the bandsaw, a single 4" soon to be upgraded on the drum sander and a few other tools. Longest run will be 10m long I reckon. Due to this, I think adding in a initial chip separator located in the main shed (thien baffle or Oneida super dust deputy-ish but cheaper) will of course reduce my cfm to the extractor but not enough to cause a great negative impact considering the size of this unit (assuming the impeller is ok).

Any input appreciated. Looking for the best 'temporary' and well priced solution for decent dust collection. As much as I like dreaming of clearvue's.

Apart from the colour that unit look identical to this one.

OLD School DC issues

If it is the same it will have only a 12" straight vane impeller, so very noisy and hardly a stellar performer even at 60Hz

Thanks Bob for the link. That's a real bummer. I also found a link to this advert on machines4u that shows the straight vane impeller on the 3kw model.

Swapping the 4hp motor for a 3hp could be a problem due to the different shaft size going from a 100L frame to a 90L. You'd have to sleeve it to compensate for the smaller diameter shaft, and that's potential for balance problems with the impeller. Running the 4hp via a VFD is a better option.

Not impressed by the straight vane impeller - as Bob says they're noisy. I went from a generic 2hp with a 12" straight vane to a 3hp Holytek with a 13.3" backward curved impeller, it's quieter despite moving twice the air.

Cheers for the information. Hypothetically if I could fit a larger better designed impeller this would be an OK unit? Current price leaves plenty of room for modification before it doesn't justify buying the unit.

Hypothetically yes. From what I remember the impeller has two exit points which would need to be enlarged otherwise fitting a larger impeller would be a waste of time.
