If I were you I would have a look at the Fein equivalent. They are, in my opinion, a better machine at a better price. Bags are heaps cheaper as well.

    Hi Peter

I replaced a Fein with the Festool CT26E several months ago. The Festool is noticeably quieter and more powerful. There are similar brushes, etc with both machines. I do not think that you are asking about these.

The first item I would deal with is the hose. The hoses are now all anti-static, and this makes them pricey. The 26E comes standard with a 27mm hose, which I think is too small, and if you could get the Seller to swap it for the 36mm hose at the start, you will be about $300 better off.

The second is the dust collection. The choices are: use paper bags, use a long-life replaceable, and/or use a small cyclone collector (such as the Dust Deputy). The long-life bag is around $300 but last ... a long time . Empty it when full, and replace it in the machine (I have done this). Paper bags get expensive over time.

The mini cyclone is an issue. Festool do not warrantee the machine if damage is caused by a non-antistatic hose/collector (as far as I can tell). Consequently, the Dust Deputy must be the anti-static type, which is not sold in Oz. Carbatec do sell an antistatic kit DD that fits on top of the machine's tray. This is $500! What I did was get an anti-static mini cyclone from Dust Commander - same size as the DD - for about $40 (I cannot recall exactly) and a second party antistatic 50mm hose to link it to the vacuum cleaner. That was about $200 including an antistatic connector. As you can see, going the cheap route is not a big savings in the long term, that is, the expensive fitted DD is more convenient and costing about $250 extra in the short term.

Although costing about 50% more than the Fein, the Festool is the better machine in design and use. They are both quality machines.

    Regards from Perth

Hi Derekcohen thanks for detailed response exactly what I needed. I have tried the Festool but have never seen a Fien that look the part but the dust deputy mounting and setup is really appealing for my set. I did try and haggle for the larger hose but none of the suppliers want to budge on the swap due to price fixing and fear of the Festool police sending the boys around [emoji15]. I will do some more research but thank you.

Default Festool CT26E what attachments come with it.

Hi all, just to update I looked at few of the workshop vacs around my area but no luck on a Fien in stock. All worked well but the noise was a migraine in the making, the Festool was the quietest so I have gone with this option paired with the UDD (ultimate dust deputy). Got it home and put it together in front of the curious gaze of my wife, which near died on the spot when told how much it cost. Well all together switch on and vacuum the whole lounge room to show how it works, wow this is great my says can we keep it in the house lol So looks like I have to save another 5yrs to get another. Only thing to get now is the bigger hose.
    Cheers
