    Default Fitting pleated cartridge

Picked up some pleated filter cartridges today for the dusty, having a bit of trouble getting them on. It seems that these 500mm dia ones are made for FM300 units which are 490, and mine is 504. It's close, but won't quite go on. Any advice on how to stretch the rubber collar? I thought about heat, but then remembered that heat will shrink a stretched rubber band.

I've been told that KY Jelly is a good lubricant for rubber. I've not tried it, but someone suggested it for replacing the tyres on bandsaws, so it must work.

KY is water based, so it would be safe enough. So would soapy water using dishwashing detergent. But if I stretch it over I need it to grip, I suspect a lubricant would just make it harder to fit as it could just as easily slip off again.

If you're careful with your application of heat I suspect you could make the rubber a bit more pliable without shrinking it. Another way might be with bike tyre levers; being fibre-reinforced-plastic, there should be little chance of damaging anything but you might want to get a few spares in case they snap.

When we fit "rubber" bushes or hangers, we use straight dish washing liquid. Leaves no residue and doesn't cause the "rubber" to deteriorate

One problem with over stretching rubber is it can then shrink in time and can then crack.
Before you overstretch it what about pop riveting and sealing a strip of sheet metal around the inside of the DC bag housing.
This should at least knock off a few mm of the distance needed for the rubber cola rot be stretched?

That will be what I'll do if I can't stretch it over. I was trying to avoid doing that because I figured it would introduce potential leakage points.

Before you pop rivet the sheet metal smear the joint with something and that should more ore less permanently seal that joint. The other joint should be not different to the join between the housing and the rubber seal o note filter.

With perseverance, a bunch of clamps, some lube, a few tyre levers and a not inconsiderable amount of language no child should ever hear, they're on. Thanks for all the suggestions, much appreciated.
