I have come to a standstill with regard to forming the reverse BMH. I don't have a lathe, or access to one, and a 38mm roundover bit is prohibitively expensive for what will possibly be a one time use.
Has anyone got any other suggestions, or even a router bit that I could borrow/hire?
Have you got concave spokeshave or even a rasp?

Angle grinder with coarse sanding disc?

    Thanks Bob,
I had thought about the rasp idea, but wasn't sure about how accurate/neat it needed to be. I can certainly give that a go if you think that will be alright. I can make up a template with the 38mm radius and check as I go.
Is it necessary to seal the "end grain" of the mdf to make it a bit more robust and smooth?

You could go through the grits up to about 2000 then hit it with a two-pack paint followed by cutting polish if you want.

I wouldn't sweat getting the curvature super accurate. Any sort of rounding over is better than none. At the other end of the scale, the last mm or so does not gain much flow.

It's a good idea. Sand smooth and then apply a coat of something to raise the grain that you can sand smooth, and then a coat over that will probably do

Having now waded through this thread, it begs this question:

Why do the manufacturers stick with a 6” inlet and choke it down to a 5” outlet?

Same reason why most machines are supplied with 4" dust ports, ie they have little knowledge about dust control.

BobL, does this achieve the desired result? It’s quite a bit more expensive but I wondered if the figures quoted are true?

In process of placing the dusty outside behind the shed, Landlord is a sparky and wired up free of charge. Then 2AM this morning and curiosity light goes on....If its outside and iys plugged into exterior power point,,,how do I turn the sucker (pun) on & off?

Do I run outside around the back of shed, leap the watercourse (when its raining) turn it on then back inside.

Will yak with landy today but do those of you with yours outside have a legal approved remote switch inside and do these work through colourbond walls.

Oh the first world problems we face.
I would love to grow my own food, but I can not find bacon seeds

I went to a demonstration at Timbecon Melbourne yesterday where these were demonstrated: https://www.ivacswitch.com/ivac-pro-remote-control/

It can be anything from just the remote control to a fully automated system which comes on when you start a tool.

I was quite impressed with the Ivac stuff, but less so with the DE setup in Timbecon's workshop. Too many long 4" pipes for my liking, but the work area is clean enough, but I don't know how much dust has been made in there.

I am giving a lot of consideration to getting some of the Ivac gear to automate my system when I get it back together after moving house last year. Don't pick on me, it's only been nine months - these things take time.

Tonto, I did not ask if it works through colorbond as that was not relevant to my circumstances but I am sure a quick phone call to Timbecon would answer that question. Usual disclaimer, no financial interest in Ivac or Timbecon

My DC is plugged into a GPO inside the shed and also has its legit switch inside the shed.

Did the Sparky put the GPO for the DC inside or outside the shed?
A very simple solution is to zip tie the DC switch "on" and switch it on at the GPO inside the shed.

He...landlord sparky suggested the following, 'I am away for a few days, go to Bunnies get an Arlec remote switch...will do want you want' so now have this remote thing that plugs into power plug outside then dusty plugs into it. The power plug stays on, the dusty switch is/will be zip tied on and the remote does all the on off stuff. that was easy.

I'm in the process of doing the impeller>filter bag mod, and was wondering if the length of the transition piece will have any effect on the performance?
