Thanks for that woodPixel. It's now apparent to me that neither of my DE's have woks! Sorry for leading everybody up the garden path! Looking at the attached link made me wonder whether a hanging basket saucer, or even the hanging basket itself might make a good wok?

Should be fine.

I overcame the fear of making a big hole through the brick wall lol so the dc could position outside.

I could not find any Taiwan made 3hp dc over the weekend so have to settle for the china mad

Hopefully, I can pick 1 dc up at timbercon after work today

And thanks BobL for the quick reply. I'll post pics on my DC progress and ask silly questions.

Hi all!

It took a little while to gather more tools for my dusty adventure :lol:
6" pvc pipe and fittings, 6" flexy hose, bunnings garden "BMH"s and a hafco cyclone.

I am about to make a frame for the 3hp+impeller to sit on top of the cyclone then poke a hole through the brick wall, i am using 200x50mm to make muffler on the outside of the wall says 350-400mm ID then line the inside with mattress foam.

I hope it works.

I hate to rain on your parade but hopefully I can save you a lot of wasted time and effort, don't go to all the trouble of mounting the motor/impeller on that cyclone, you will have no flow if you do so, especially with a 3 hp DC. That thing is so badly designed that it will drop almost 5" of vacuum on a 3 hp unit, which translates to running you dust collector with partly blocked filter bags, as in very very dirty bags .

EDIT: If you want to get an idea of the loss caused by this cyclone and you can't measure AC current to the DC or don't have air flow equipment, you could try this simple test. Connect a short length of flex to the DC, turn it on and get a feel for the physical air flow into the flex, now lay the cyclone on its side and connect it to the flex, this gives you a straight run from the cyclone, you should be able to feel a huge drop in airflow at the cyclone intake, all caused by a cyclone that is really only meant for a 1 HP DC - if that.

To others, yes I know this is a crude test, but in the absence of any test equipment, the substantial loss caused by the cyclone on a 3 HP DC should be very obvious.

Quick question re your dust extractor. Do you know the actual size if the impellor itself? (not the housing but the actual impellor).

Hi, you need to measure the diameter of the impeller, try and measure for the tip to tip of the blades or at least the blade base plate diameter, and if you can, also measure the hight of the blade at it highest point. Would be nice to know for future reference.
