MDF dust class
Someone said to me recently that an M class shop vac was necessary for MDF dust. I had been under the impression that M class was asbestos, and that L class was suitable for MDF dust.
If it is M class then I suspect that there are a lot of woodies out there that may not have the right vac.
Can anyone shed a little light please?
Cheers, Brett

Festool has a range of dust extractors for all different applications:
Class L is suitable for general work.
Class M is specifically for mineral dust, man-made wood-based dust, oak and beech woods.
Class H is used with anything that is a known carcinogen or has known health related effects. (Lead, cadmium, asbestos etc.)
The Festool CTL extractors are OK for more general work. If you are routing/sanding MDF or certain wood sorts (oak, beech etc.) then you must use the CTM series.

Thanks for that. So in that case, it is as I expected - there are probably thousands of woodies with the wrong class of vac (anyone who works with MDF, and at some point that would be just about everyone).
I suspect that a lot more noise needs to be made about this.

Considering we sell probably 1 m class vac per month as aposed to over 50 L class, I think your pretty much right.
