http://www.cycloneseparator.com/
Hi All
I have been following the posts regarding a cyclone and buying one from the US etc.
I found this site (www.cycloneseparator.com) which sells the separator alone (i.e. no motor etc) but it can be used in between the standard dust extractor and the tool(s) of choice.
I have contacted the seller and although his E-bay site indicates he does not ship internationally, he has written back to me saying that he sold a batch to someone in Australia and is searching for the name for me.
Depending how this goes, this might be another option for people on the forum. I will keep trying to see if he will export them and I will see if we can get a better price for multiple orders.
Can I get an indication from people if they are interested?
The price on E-bay is $189 by the way
Thanks

Thanks Red.
Is it for the whole shebang? ie: the lower bin as well? Or just the upper 'funnel' section?
I'm wondering whats involved in getting some made up locally in Aus by a sheetmetal worker.....
I've only got an upright 1hp Carbatec dusty.... would that suck enough???
Cheers,
Nathan.
EDIT: Looking at the website, I'm guessing only for the upper funnel section.

Hi Nathan
Yes from the site it is only the cyclone, a motor would be needed. The 1Hp would work, whether it would give enough suction not sure, but it would have to be better than a standard DC.
Thanks

I bought an Oneida Super Dust Deputy complete with their 30 Gal drum. The cyclone was shipped inside the drum for shipping convenience but shipping was expensive due to volume and weight - around $200 by UPS.
It is however awesome and I have used both 1hp and 2HP extractors with it. I can attest that a 1hp motor easily provides sufficient suction as the unit and drum are completely air tight and well designed. Provided that good seals in the extraction chain are achieved, the cyclone separator should provide similar results.
I have filled the drum several times and there is only the slightest hint of dust that has reached the duster extractor. My paper cartridge filter looks pristine. The cyclone is easy to handle and much easier to empty with far less mess - a far cry from the standard setups.

An update
Hi All
I have received an E-mail from the US seller indicating that he sold a number of units to a chap in Australia, and he has forwarded me his details. I have had no luck getting through however, but will keep trying.
I will also see about having them shipped direct if possible.

Update on progress
Hi All
Well, I have had no luck with either the US lead or the local lead who bought some from the US.
But, I have been told by Oneida that Carbatec will be bring the Dust Deputy to Australia arounf March for about $189.
This is the smaller unit, not the Super dust deputy. I have contacted Oneida about shipping costs and can let everyone know once I find out.
Thanks

Looks like you heard right. Priced at $189, and available for pre-order according to the Carbatec Focus catalog

G'day YeahNah,
Surely $189 for 2 plastic buckets put together with no motor is a bit steep, The Triton dust collector works as well and the concept is the same but the prices on ebay are also steep. Just wondering has anyone attempted to make one that works using just one bucket and not a leaning tower of pizza?
Regards
Jack

I have imported the super dust deputy as I mentioned above. There are other threads on dust deputy shipping costs but I paid under $50. The Carbatec price is about right in this light. Oh, and contrary to what many people may think, the super dust deputy is so air tight it works very well with a 1 hp unit as well.

Jack, have a look at how I converted the Triton dust bucket into a mini cyclone.
Many forumites have made them and you can even make them using any old paint cans or drums if you don't have a Triton dust bucket on hand.
More satisfying to make your own and cheaper too.
Peter.
