There are options that are cheaper. Aldav (David) on the forum used to sell these, perhaps he still does.

IIRC they were 1/2 the price.

I have a Super DD from David - simply because the Oneida is not available in Oz and the cost of import (even with the above discount) is totally unreasonable, if available - and when I looked it was not available.

David's Super DD looks to be the same design, or very similar. I have hooked it up with 5" hose to a 2hp Carbatec dustie, exhausting first into a 40 lt drum. It is FANTASTIC! The dustie has dust in it, but the amount has not altered over a few months of using the Super DD. The bin for the Super DD, on the other hand, has been filled and emptied many, many times. It appears to be collecting almost all the dust.

The Super DD/DC is fed by a Hammer N4400 bandsaw and Hammer A3-31 planer/thicknesser.

Does your Hammer machines use a 5" port? Is that the reason you use that diameter hose?

Can you remember how much you roughly paid for the drum?

The Hammer comes standard with a 5" fitting. At some stage I plan to change all the hoses to 6". The Super DD has one 6" and one 4" from memory.

The drum? I bought 2 on Gumtree. I think I paid $40 for both. They are steel "painter's drums", and have a snap-closing ring around the top. They have steel lids, and the Super DD was bolted straight on after the hole was cut with a jigsaw. I added wheels underneath.

The inlet is 5" and the outlet 6". 5" has over 150% of the airflow of 4". Ring-lock drums of the type Derek has used are by far the best way to go, doesn't matter whether they're steel, plastic or cardboard. You can get 'zapped' by the plastic ones though.

So it does. I just took it down from the shelf. Its been there waiting for my 6" hose upgrade for everything (which like everything, is taking fooorrrreeeveerrr..)

Aldav, do you recon the 5" inlet can be stretched out to 6"?

I was just having a quick play with it (and ironically, dusted it off!) and was thinking the large squarish mouth just before the inlet is far bigger than the 5" inlet socket. If I could remodel that inlet to 6" it would be awesome.

Do you think it might be a thermoplastic susceptible to a bit of heat-gun love?

David, that is correct: 5" and 6".

WP, I used a 6>5" reducer. There is no reason it cannot go the other direction.

Firstly I should say that this item is NOT made by Oneida Air Systems. If it looks identical there is probably a reason for that. I'm no expert on plastics woodPixel, I'm pretty confident that the material used is polyethylene. Having said that I'd be pretty reluctant to change the manufacturers design. If you have a look at Oneida's SDD XL - https://www.oneida-air.com/inventory...o=AXD002030AXL - that has 6" inlet and outlet you will see that the dimensions are significantly increased to cope with the extra flow. So while I'm not saying that stretching the inlet to 6" won't work I'd be extremely doubtful.

Before anybody asks if I can get a 6" version from my current supplier the answer is no. Even if I imported the Oneida version freight would then become a huge problem. The current version that I sell just sneaks in under the Fastway maximum dimensions (sort of, my local Fastway branch are very accommodating) to qualify for 'affordable' freight rates, provided the recipient is in the Fastway delivery area. Once you're in a re-delivery area the costs can be eye-watering. Fortunately they have pretty good coverage these days. I've looked at other options for these re-delivery areas and generally speaking they're line ball with Fastway. Within their delivery area Fastway can't be beat - $17.75 to Perth, e-go want $103.49. Yes, I did mean eye-watering.

i ask as that Oneida with post will come to $500 delivered, plus a the GST due to the large import total.

Ahh thanks for point out the GST. In that case, two units delivered is approx. AUD$943, which falls under the GST threshold which translates to $471.50 pp. Save $40 pp. basically.

I have a Carbatec 2HP dust collector with pleated filter (also from CT).

Thanks for that post. It looks like the cyclone is very similar if not identical to one available on aliexpress that I posted an image of recently. This thread has allowed me to join a few dots. It's great you are happy with it because I recently took a punt and ordered from aliexpress. Main concern, apart from it not working, is the 5" inlet choking the potential of the system. If it doesn't work, it's back to the drawing board.

That's funny I thought I joined the dots for you in my PM! I even directed you to this thread and told you it would answer your questions. Hope it arrives undamaged.
