Default Any Recomended videos on DIY DC

    G'day all.

Yes it is about time I started to look after myself a bit more.

Are there any good video's on YouTube you could recommend on making a cyclone DC system.

Trying to remember the name of the guy who has free plans too. It's on the tip of my tongue but cant quite remember.

I don't know much about YouTube watching so can't help there. Is the guy you are thinking of Bill Pentz?

From what I have seen there are a few Youtube Vids about Bill Pentz Philosophy, making a BP style collector etc but nothing with BP himself in the video.
All the information about his cyclone including plans is on his website.

I was hoping to find a build where someone follows his plans

Muzza, Jord's video is not for a BP dust extractor.
That means it won't filter out as much fines as a BP cyclone, and with only a 2HP motor and small impeller it won't have the flow needed to capture fine dust at source.
It is near impossible to simply cobble to gather any old bits of something to make a BP cyclone.

    Thoughts on an MDF build?

Is abrasion an issue, if so what internal coating would be recommended?

Home made impeller? Ply? What is a good design?

Some on the net have curved blades, some straight. Some go through to center and some stop short. Some are square both ends others have a tapper towards the middle. Some are between two flat discs, a flat disc and a ring or one glat disc only.

Hi Dave, Bill Pentz has a list of the different fan and pros / cons, It's really worth navigating his site before building anything, I know it can be pain sometimes to find exactly what you want.

Trying to make a FAN from timber for a 3HP + system would be, IMHO, a disaster. The fan is one of the most critical components of a DE system. I'd make the rest but not the Impeller (fan). The best idea is to look at the videos and then go to Bill's site and see why most are wrong for correct Dust extraction in a true 3hp to 5hp system.

IMHO and despite what people say on the net and videos, 3hp with a cyclone is, in reality, to small even with a low loss (relative) Bill Pentz Cyclone, especially if you want a true dust extraction system.

Yes, I find his webpage hard going. I like your idea of following somebody who's already interpreted the information...

That web page that Hoey linked to is pretty inspirational. I laughed out loud when he filled up his collection drum and found one solitary chip in his filter box.

I thought the story stopped after page 2, as there was no link in his commentary. But I found parts 3 & 4 in his links on the left if you scroll back to the top of his page.

I reckon it is a good idea seeing I thought of it. 3MM MDF painted internally with a two part epoxy or fibreglass resin shouldn't abrade too much if at all and even if it does only last a few years it would be hard to do another if you had a pattern, the whole thing might cost at least $50 to build the cyclone and fan housing.

Trying to read BP's website on a phone must be a challenge to say the least.
