Default Remote Start for Dust Extractor

    Hi
I have finished the BobL modifications to my 2HP Dusty. Boy does it now suck.
I am about to build an enclosure for the dusty inside my shed and I see a problem arising. I want to start and stop the dusty with a remote control but it is fitted with a No Voltage Release switch meaning that I would need to open the enclosure each time I wanted to start the machine.
How do I overcome this issue?

Advice on a suitable remote switch would also be appreciated.

    Cheers

Remove the switch and hardwire the 3 pin 240V cable direct to the motor.
Buy an extension cord and cut it in half and connect either end to the switch mounted on a suitable box.

If you want to get safer and fancier I would do the following.

Remove the standard 3 pin cable and DC switch from the DC.
Purchase or look for a "Kettle cord extension" (KCE).
Cut the KCE in half and wire the male plug end direct to the motor.
Connect the original standard 3pin cable and female end of the kettle cord to the DC switch mound on a suitable box.

This restricts any future owner of the DC from plugging the DC direct into the mains.

I should add that standard computer or kettle cord cables are only usually rated for 10A so are only appropriate for motors of 2HP or less.

For 3HP or more there are 16A versions of a plug similar to those on computer cables, or if you want somethings real nice rated at 20A that locks in place you could uses these.

The wife bought one of these...Remote controlled socket with no real idea why...

I replaced my dusty switch with a standard from Timbecon and then placed one of these inbetween the plug and socket. The same on my radio. I keep the remote in my top pocket and hit "1" to start the dusty and 2 to turn the radio on...gold!

Thanks everyone. Am I correct in assuming that the two white wires (as well as a black and red) going to the motor are something to do with the No Voltage Release and I can ignore them and put in a normal on off switch?

No, the white wires may have something to do with motor capacitors, do the white wires head back towards the motor and capacitor(s)

In that case you better make sure they continue to do so.
Sorry I'm reluctant to provide any further specific info on this.

Sounds like a job for a sparky.

Could anyone give a ballpark figure as to how much a sparky might charge to do this job and whether a residential sparky would be the best bet?

I'm in the process of having this done for my 15amp dusty. Amongst other work for shop aircon and house. My sparky is just charging his normal hourly rate. Unfortunately this is a bit of a delay atm as I need to line the inside of the DE enclosure (well that corner of it at least) before he installs the new wall plug there. The switch that I control will be in the workshop.
