Hummm - you cannot just mate the two simply like that because the air will expand to then collide with the exhaust acoustic lining. You will have to adapt the 8" down to the size of the pathway through the muffler.
All the Clearvues I have seen have a rectangular impeller exit can you supply a photo of yours please.
Its not worth making any adapter any larger in cross sectional area than the rectangular exit.
I would adapt the rectangular impeller exit to a short length of 150mm PVC ducting that pokes say 150 mm inside the exhaust.
Or to make it easy make up a rectangular adapter duct out of MDF that fits ~150 mm down inside the muffler.
You could run it 300 mm down and put holes in the last 150 like a car muffler has

Thanks Bob. Maybe these photos will help my poor verbal description. The transition section is the one that comes standard with the Clearvue when you opt to not go for filters which typically heads you down the path of a 90 degree transition. The straight transition section according to Clearvue is 8" but ends in a circular section which measures around 218mm OD. The photo below shows it along side a section of 225mm SW which by my measurement runs at around 240mm ID so as you can see the straight transition fits inside the PVC a reasonable distance until it bottoms out. How to effectively adapt the clearvue to the PVC is the question.

OK now we can get somewhere. (ignore all labels doing Rect Exit - it should be round exit)
A transition that looks like "A" will result in the air colliding with the muffler material and cause turbulence
B, which matches the 218 to the diameter of the muffler bore will be better as it streamlines the flow

Your method to me sounds like method C - which does not even need an adapter
In this case all you need to do is taper the roll the chicken wire inside the muffler to suit
- OR -
use a 218 mm diameter roll of chicken wire and live with a layer of just 11mm of acoustic absorber inside teh muffler?

Thanks Bob. Version c is exactly what I was attempting to describe. I just wasn’t sure how to secure it all in place but I suspect I’ll need to duct tape it together. I presume 2m of 225 PVC filled with carpet would provide comparable attenuation to a similar length of insulated flexible HVAC duct?

I managed to secure a gift of carpet offcuts today so i thought I'd try and put it together with the 225mm PVC. I can say it wasn't easy to get the carpet in nice and even without overlapping but after a bit of perserverance I managed to get it to lay quite nicely. The longest section of PVC I could line was about 1m as I found I needed to work the carpet into position from each end. I had a bell end on one of the 225mm PVC offcuts so I'll end up with two lined pieces of PVC for a total muffler length of around 2m. After lining the PVC I tried the Clearvue straight transition to see how it might fit. I think it's pretty much spot on (photos below). You can see how the transition section compresses the carpet pile so there won't be any room for additional foam. Hopefully the carpet will provide adequate attenuation. Once mounted it's going to be a difficult spot to get into to perform any modifications so if there is anything obvious that doesn't look right here I'd welcome your thoughts before it all gets mounted up some time tomorrow or Sunday hopefully.
