seperator fittings
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone knew if these were available in australia:
Dust Right® 4" Dust Separator Components | Rockler Woodworking and Hardware
https://www.ptreeusa.com/dust_separators.html
scroll down to the 4" Cyclone Dust Separator Kit
The prices are good but shipping kills it. I would have thought someone in australia would sell these ?
My problem is the slivers of wood that come off my jointer/thicknesser block my dust collector so if I could catch them in a bin en route it would be helpful.
Thank you in advance.I'm just a startled bunny in the headlights of life. L.J. Young.

Couldn't you adapt some plumbing fittings to do this for you, or use a couple of these - https://www.carbatec.com.au/dust-con...4-inch-plastic. Sure they don't have the mounting shoulders, but that's not an insurmountable problem. If you put any kind of a chip collector in the DC line you're going to lose some flow so maybe you'd be better off to go to 5"?

Carbatec sells something similar, wouldn't have a clue how effective they are as I've never used one.

alternatively you can get a cyclone from hare and forbes.

Easy to build yourself from plumbing fittings

if you don’t want the Thein separator plate, just leave it out. Be warned though, the container you use will have to be strong or it may collapse.

Thank you all for the responses.
Yes I could fabricate something but I've got a job list that stretches to eternity.
The carbatec thing won't fit the plastic bin I've got sitting idle but maybe it would be easier to buy a suitable size bin. Not sure where to get one though. Mine is about 450 diameter.
The machineryhouse cyclone is too dear.
I wanted an easy cheap solution but I guess that's too much to ask. I am amazed no one bothers to stock such a cheap simple and adaptable set.
BobL: I didn't know that grill could come out. I will look into that, thank you.
Specifically which stormwater fittings would I buy to most easily make a couple of fittings on my bin lid ? I've been looking for ones with a flange but they seem to be few ?
Having a bad day. Made the mistake of ordering parts from sparesbox, waited 5 days to receive the wrong item. Car is unusable until I get the right thing. They substituted for the part I ordered. Telstra internet has been dropping out for 18 months, particularly bad this week. They continue to lie or ignore me. Getting close to escalating to the ombudsman. Trying to get ready for a motoring trip to tassie and everything seems to be against me...
So I apologise if I seem... difficult.I'm just a startled bunny in the headlights of life. L.J. Young.

When Bob says taking out the grill he probably means getting the angle grinder out

I just found this on the bunnings site. I wonder if it would work ? If I mounted it upside down and glued some 100mm pipe into the flanged end (to give something to slip the ducting over) ?
I've got plenty of 100mm pvc pipe...
Thank you for the comments.
It helps if you remember to add the link:

Use these with the 100mm pvc pipe you already have.. All available from Bunnies or your local plumbing supplier.

The flange glues to the pipe with PCV pipe cement so you can position it anywhere on the pipe you like.
Here is one I used for 100mm pipe passing through the side of my DC shed and before anyone asks/comments, no it doesn’t vibrate the shed or make any undue humming etc. etc. as there’s a flexible coupling inside the shed.

I have done a special order at bunnings. At $7.50 each I had to try them. When they come in I will report back. IF they work they are worth knowing about as they will turn any suitable size bin or bucket into a collector for $15 and change (for screws/glue/whatever).
I realise there are issues with inline collectors like this but if someone wants to do it then this facilitates that.I'm just a startled bunny in the headlights of life. L.J. Young.

I've been busy but today had to do some jointing so fitted these up to an old bin. You can probably see I didn't bother bolting them on as the holes I cut are a tight fit. I'll do that later.
The fittings work a treat. I didn't realise how many shavings I was making so it filled and overflowed but it did what I wanted, caught pretty much all the coarse stuff.
Per other discussions I make no representations on how effective this is on dust. It does what I wanted it to do.
The fittings were $7.50 each from bunnings, which makes the system much cheaper than the commercial units from carbatec timbecon and internet vendors. The 100 mm hose is a nice snug fit.
It was a weird day, one where everything I tried to do went well, then the boss rang and told me she'd reversed into a pole. The universe is back in balance.
And she is a really good driver. This is probably the first thing she's hit in 20 years. Murphy. Can't win...I'm just a startled bunny in the headlights of life. L.J. Young.

I've got one, don't use it. Unable to get a bin to fit, so unable to seal around the top.
Instead I am currently experimenting with an olive bin from a local market. $15 or so I think. Good seal, just added the fittings.
Setup not finished but I'm getting there - slowly.
