Where to get short length of ~80mm ID corrugated hose, preferrably clear?
Hi guys,
I have built a CNC router (New CNC Router - Welded steel)
Works well.
Dust is of course a major issue. I've designed and built a prototype dust shoe. It features a brush ring around the tool. The whole thing 'floats' i.e. it can move up and down to handle different length cutting tools, and different cut depths. The major limitation in version one was working with small, short tools. I can overcome this by having the shoe able to move up higher, by having a hole for the router body. However, if I don't seal around the router, I lose a huge amount of dust suction.
So I'm looking for flexible, preferrably clear, hose that can expand and collapse and I can use to seal around the router. See pictures below.
I only need 10-15cm. Minimum 80mm internal diameter (router body is 80mm), but a bit larger would be fine.
I've looked at a few places, including carbatec, hare and forbes etc, but paying for metres of hose plus shipping for the tiny bit I need is a bit ridiculous.
Any suggestions?

Try someone like www.westatehose.com.au. Visit your local store ask for a small offcut.

What are you using for an extractor? The big problem I see with your design is the inability to pull enough air through the brush guard to match the extractors maximum flow rate which in turn means the dust and debris will not get picked up as well as it should be. How that is approached depends on the required air flow and what you are using as an extractor.

You're searching for the wrong thing, try "bellows". Resembling the ones on old cameras they are more flexible than hose and should give you the range of movement you need without interfering with the CNC.
An American company selling bellows. INT'L BELLOWS & COVERS, INC. - Home
And another. Bellows « Centryco
An Aussi company. Bellowflex - Bellows and Covers for industry applications
In looking I found a company that bake ones for leavers that could have possibilities. You might be able to adapt one from a car or truck shifter. http://sreaustralia.com.au/wp-conten...er-bellows.pdf
Adapting the lowly toilet plunger perhaps. Handi Home Supplies - Master Plunger

I'm using a fein dustex shop vacuum. High static pressure, lower flow rate compared with a dust extractor.
The dust extraction is very good with the shoe
Pete, that's a great thought. I hadn't tried bellows. (Sometimes the difficulty with finding things online is the name / search term, particularly difficult when the term refers to multiple things.)

Any irrigation supply places near you?
It can be a real eye opener to see the range of hoses, pipes etc that they carry.Regards,
Bob
