    Default Trend Air Shield Respirator

Hi Everyone out there. I am a newby to this forum, but have been around for a while.
I am trying to re-activate a Trend Air Shield Respirator helmet, bought new in 2002.
I would like to purchase a charger and another battery pack for this model, but am having no luck. If anyone knows where accessories can be bought that would be a great help.
The alternatives are to use it without airflow, or junk it and buy a new one!

Take it to battery world and see if they can set you up with an aftermarket charger and batteries

I have an old 3M unit that I was given which has the battery on your belt. The battery has had it and the current theory (not that I have actually done anything about it) is to use a belt mounted drill battery from my 18v drill and a DC voltage reducer from Jaycar.

Ignore the standard battery pack altogether as I did years ago. You can get off the shelf NiMh batterys and a charger way cheaper than the Purelite / Trend charger & battery packs plus it charges in a few hours rather than 14 hours or so standard. Voltage is almost the same with the 3xAA's NiMh's and they will give you at least twice the running time over standard.

Go to Jaycar or a similar electronics supplier and purchase a 3xAA battery pack, a spiral power cable and the matching connectors to the Trend battery plugs. Be aware there are two plug sizes almost the same size. On the helmet drill a small hole in the LH battery housing to take the spiral cable with allowance for a cable grommet. The grommet is required to stop pulling the cable plug from the helmet during use. Solder up the plugs to the spiral cable & use some heat shrink to tidy up. Then just put the 3xAA battery pack in the shirt sleeve pocket or have SWMBO sew a pocket on the sleeve or the back of your turning jacket so the battery & cable are out of the way. The spiral cable will stay out of the way & there is little risk of entanglement with the lathe if its done on the LHS. I have a male & female plug on opposing ends of the spiral cable and have made up the aux battery packs with a male plug so I could use both standard batteries and the after market setup.

No more running out of batteries or waiting for snail pace chargers.
