    When I said the motor was happy running at 70Hz before that was with no air running through the impeller while I was testing the static pressure.
    With air running though the impeller the current reaches 20.8A at 68.7Hz and it will go no further. The frequency it reaches depends on the number of gates that are open, if more gates are open then it might not even get that high...
    Bob, if you leave the VFD in that mode you will have essentially implemented the Oneida "Smart" system. You might find this patent interesting reading.

    Interesting but I doubt the motor would last all that long under that sort of load. I'm struggling to see a patent in that Oneida smart system - its just a basic feedback loop.

    As long as the current limit is the same or just slightly higher than the motor's full load current rating the motor lifetime should be reasonable unless your ambient temperature is well above 40C.

    I was also surprised that Oneida got a patent on something that simple. It may not hold up in court if someone challenges it but lawyers are expensive and that itself can be a deterrent to trying.
