    Default Vacuum bag recommendations

    Hi all,

I recently had a Ryobi M class 30l vacuum die on me. I was using it mostly as dust extractor for an orbital sander and also a router. I noticed that the filter was getting very dirty and clogged quite often so I’m guessing this is what killed it. I was using cheap paper bags from Bunnings and I suspect that they might have been the issue. When I used the original fabric/felt bag that came with the vacuum I didn’t notice the filter getting clogged. Also, the paper bags were slightly wet when I got them (not new) and I’m now wondering if that was also detrimental to their filtering ability.

Has anyone else noticed this issue when using paper bags for their vacuums and also can anyone recommend a good brand for fabric/felt bags?

    Thank you,
    Toni

If your filters are getting caked up you've most likely got a leak, the wet bag most probably contributed as any moisture would have caused the dust to cake on solid, severely limiting the machines ability to breath through the bag, therefore the air needed to get through somehow and the easiest would have been through the bag opening seal.

Also if you consult your user manual one of the instructions is to clean the filter regularly, something i suspect most users don't do.

If you found no issue with the original bag why not get one to similar specs?

I've got a karcher and use the factory bags with no issue, when i had a ryobi i use whatever brand that Bunnings sold and didn't have any issues.

The PowerFit Micro-fibre bags are the best ones for Ryobi from my testing. I can usually reuse them about 5-6 times, they're not paper bags which fall apart.

    Just a moment...

    Thanks both for your replies!

I did clean the filter couple of times but I was using my belt sander at the time it died so I guess not often enough for the amount of dust it was creating I didn't realised the dust could get through the bag opening seal but that actually makes perfect sense and explains why so much of it was getting onto the filter.

Yes, those PowerFit bags are the ones I was looking at using with the new vacuum (Bunnings were nice enough to replace it) so thanks for confirming they work well with the Ryobi. I did find the original Ryobi bags on eBay however they were $30/piece which seemed a bit steep.

    Thank you,
    Toni
