My Clear vue installation
Well this was forced on me after I got sick from sucking in to much wood dust after a small run of jobs.
So SWMBO said fix it or no shed for you
But she did say that she would pay for DE. Got to love her for that, yes. I think this was to keep me out from under her feet and after me being sick for a few weeks she could not put up with me not being in the shed
So after much reading here on this forum and other place My vote came down in favor of the clear vue cv1800 system 4kw motor and a VDF. No bags and a constant suction.
Well it all turn up last Thursday It did take a while as Stephen has only just start his setup as the local distributor out here and still his service was tops
So today the play started
The unpacking only come across one small mishap the bolts had escaped there packaging and coursed a small amount of damage to the housing MDF.. this was readily glue up.
Made the frame to holed the DE as I want it not connected to the shed wall as this could become a sound board for the DE. This can have sound proofing added to it latter and I have left enough space so that a separate box can be fitted around this a a second level of sound proofing.
Made the exit hole in shed wall for the exhaust . This will be extended and widen the exhaust cross section so slowing down the air speed and also going through a 90 degree bend and pointing the exhaust strait up so that most of the noise will be aimed at the sky.
I will be using 150 pvc pipe as ducting, But after counting up the number of fitting and the cost I will make my own but more on this in my next post.
I have nearly worked out the shed ducting plan My only problem is how to get back to the drop saw which is sitting next to the DE. The ducting has to do a 180 turn. I am a little worried about the lose of suction....
Much more to do
Hope you enjoy the ride

Re: My Clear vue installation
Hey Russell, going to watch this one with keen interest. How long did it take to arrive from placing the order to the unit arriving?
Is this you first de? If not what did the clearvue replace?
How many machine are you intending to have hooked up to this unit once you've finished the piping flow design?
Cheers

Russel, make sure the exhaust is at least the area of a 225mm pipe if you are making your own exhaust duct.

delbs..First de for me... This took a while about 6 weeks to get, but Stephen has a some on the water now and is still bring them in by air...I am having about 7 points and might add a floor one as well.
Need to do a quick connection to the band saw and cnc so I can make the parts for the rest of the ducting.
I will tune the vfd to the motor on Monday need to do this with out the impeller connected for the best result. Once this is done I will start hard bolt the bit together.
The waste box I will custom make from plywood so it can be large as possible andto keep light so as to be able to up end it in to the bin but it got to be strong enough to take the suction.

Duct making test
Have had a go at making some duct bends and junctions.
first bend failed... Tried heating a section of pipe and bending it over form you can see the result
second one.. cut a lot of vees out of one side of the pipe and the warming the connected side as I bent it over the form. It is a bit ruff but I will use it on some where a loss will not matter.
third is all worked out done a test cuts still to put it all together but looking very good pic to come
Made a 45 junction this come out good and quick to make also. Just a quick run around with a jig saw than glue the two pipes together. What I will do is set out the main ducting and where I need to put in junction I will cut them in. So one length of pipe might have several junction and no joins. I can also change the angle of the junction to suit where I aiming for.
This photo also shows the test gate I am playing with.
Fun fun fun... that all I will say...

A question Russell,
Did you use 2-pack epoxy to glue the two PVC sections together? It doesn't look like the 'normal' blue PVC adhesive.

Consisted use 2 pack epoxy but tried liquid nails first and it has stuck just great. It would not be good for water but air it looks ok..... given it the bash test and it passed with no problems, Epoxy is now plan b.
Got the DE fully together now and mounted in the frame. Also did the VDF tuning on the motor this might save a few doller over time.

Thanks Russell,
Strongly suspect I'll be following your lead at the end of the year; waiting patiently(!) for the builder to get his act together at the moment. So your DIY with 150mm PVC is of great interest.

I'll pull up a chair as well Russell. Very interested in what you are doing with the junctions in the pipe.
I'm thinking of modifying my 6" system in a few areas and the pipe work is going to be a major part of it.
Cheers, Ian"The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot.. it can't be done.
If you deal with the lowest bidder it is well to add something for the risk you run.
And if you do that, you will have enough to pay for something better"

Ian
Hope I can help...I will post some of the drawing I made so you can trace out the cut line for the pipe joints on the next post i do
Mainly be looking at the exhaust ducting and how to help reduce the noise, Made up a test duct from MDF to get the opening pointing straight up. It also expands the opening by about 4 time there for slowing the air down by 4?...The mdf also helps deaden the noise some what also. But I will in the final version is to wrap in some form of sound proofing and put anther box over that. Trying to decided if a chimney of about a meter built the same way added to the top will worth while.
On my phone the db was 70 about 1.5 mts away from the side of duct, in the shed about 65db, about 80 if put over the exhaust vent and about 60db across the yard so hopefully I can improve on that.
Made the chip box to go under the cyclone it a good size and light made from ply and pine stringers...yet to test it Might let the glue dry a bit longer.....

Does every clearvue require this sort of installation? Do they supply their own housing to assemble it all or do you need to build ur own? I'm assuming it's optional

The installation is generally customised to suit the workshop situation. The "factory" installation is hanging off a wall with a bracket built to a plan from CV, my original installation was done that way. I have since installed it totally differently hanging from the roof of a sound reduction cabinet. I think most invent their own version, some inside, some outside, one even freestanding in the middle of an aircraft hanger. Does this answer the question? You can have a look at mine in the 13th.
