Montery Clipper
While looking for something to occupy my spare time I came across images of a kit set Montery Clipper fishing boat on Google, not being into expensive kits I decided to build from scratch.
I searched Mr Google for Montery Clipper plans and came up with some fairly basic line drawings, measurements & photos.
I decided to make the model 600mm long, the Clippers are generally 28ft or 8.534m long giving a scale of 14.224:1
I copied & pasted the line drawings to MS Word then printed, measured the print, calculated the difference in size between the print and the actual size plan I needed. I then used Word-format to increase the print size. (some of the drawings had to be halved to fit on the A4 then joined after printing).
I machined 2 faces & laminated 2x50x220 rough sawn pine boards for the hull machined again and used patterns to mark, cut with bandsaw screw off cuts back on for stability of next cuts.
I cut former patterns for the shaping of the hull and marked & numbered along the keel line and shaped roughly at each mark with a coarse rasp then dressed with finer rasp and orbital sander.
I carved out the inside hull with CarborTec carver.
I used some of the off cuts to make the scupper boards.IMG_9359.jpgIMG_9361.jpgIMG_9337.jpgIMG_9349.jpgAt this point I decided to make a motor to fit inside, the original 1880s-1920s Clippers had a Hicks single cylinder 7HP motor.
The progress to date with lots of sanding needed.IMG_9366.jpgIMG_9372.jpgIMG_9373.jpg

Progress to date, motor progress slow remaking some parts 3 times because of breakages and inferiority more filling, sanding needed and repaint. Deck planks very slow because of curves in both directions I can only glue 3-5 at a time.IMG_9399.jpgIMG_9400.jpgIMG_9401.jpgIMG_9402.jpgIMG_9403.jpg Would have been better in a bigger scale with more detail and a lot easier.

""Would have been better in a bigger scale with more detail and a lot easier.""
I've found this to be true in my model building as well, bigger is better for the details!!!

The engine in its self is a work of art.
The bigger the scale the easier it is, the more detail that can be put in, the heavier it becomes and bigger to move and display.

I have been making a bit of progress, slow but steady. the cabin is my own design a combination of tradition fishing boat and modern pleasure as there doesn't appear to be any standard design.IMG_9405.jpgIMG_9406.jpgIMG_9408.jpgIMG_9409.jpg
Thanks for the comments, thanks and likes much appreciated.

Your right there, I have a small carousel 900mmx1000 Carousel Progress that I have to move around with my forklift.

The motor is working to a degree the crankshaft rotates & the piston goes up & down also the gear lever moves, if I made it twice the size I could have had the rockers & valves working. maybe a project for the future!
