    Default scale boat plans

Hi all, Picked these up at a sale the other day, thought I would share it with you all as I find stuff like this interesting, It surprises me that they have survived this long. The first is the Golden Hind, I have laid perspex over it to hold it flat (texta circles are on the perspex) 3 pages in all, no idea of the date.
The others are international dragon boat class, 1/10 scale (1960) and 1/24(1962) scale all plans seem to be there.
I sure these can still be found new. Came with a tube full of timber too.
has anyone built these models before?
    cheers
Joel(sorry about the poor quality photos)

Thanks Trev, that's pretty much what I think of your work! I show your threads to the missus and kids unbelievable stuff.
Looking at the photos on the internet of the golden Hind, I think it is something I would like sitting on my mantle piece. Although I am probably a bit on the shaky side for little things. I think I may have a crack at it at some stage and see what happens.
    cheers

Build it at 2/3 scale mate, even the little things are doable at that size.
You'll just need a slightly bigger mantelpiece but I'm sure the better half wont mind!
I'd love to see some high res images of those plans.
All beat up like that you'd think they could've been the originals.
    "Way Kool"!.

    Cheers mate.

I only have a point and shoot job, and believe me it is pretty beat up,
I'll have a go tonight and see if I can get some better photos, you would have had a giggle at me trying to take these pics, I was right under the laserlite trying to balance a piece of cardboard over my head to block the reflection on the perspex and shoot at the same time.

I am having a giggle mate I've gotten myself into some very strange positions to get a photo.
Usually it's the ones involving swivel stools that don't end well!.

That's really nice of you Joel I'd luv some.
So long as you don't brake a leg getting the photo's!
It's fair to say those plans of the Golden Hind really "Float My Boat".

    Good onya mate.

No worries Trev, not sure what time it will be I'm stuck at home with the 4 brats by myself until later tonight, I know they wont allow me to have 30 seconds to myself. I have a swivel chair in the shed that i have used to get photos, but I wont use that after a galleon of port
When I told the missus I was going to have a crack at the Golden Hind she said "what's that?" I told her "the blonde sheila down the road" apparently I was the only one who thought it funny. (just occurred that maybe that's why she left me with the kids for a while)
more installments to come - (not the puns)

    G'day Joel,
I'm pretty sure I've seen a couple of old style sailing boats on the forum so someone will soon answer your SOS...
    Cheers, crowie

Looking at the plans they look very interesting. Does the Hind come with all the rigging detail and any smaller detail for the deck pieces if not then you may need to do a little research. Also another thing to take into concideration is how are you going to construct the hull, for display it would be Plank on frame this can be quite fiddly at certain pints as nearly every plank has to be shaped.
I have made the odd model boat I think todate somewhere in the region of 20 at least completed ranging from18" up to the largest of 67 1/2" and all of them have had radio control fitted.

Here are some that I post a little while back. I still have not been able to get the sub out to take a photo of it complete

WOW, that amazing work amazing detail, I would love to see them in the flesh, if they were sitting in the water with nothing to scale off I would swear I was looking at the real thing. I didn't manage to get around to taking any pics tonight I don't want to rush and ruin the plans as they are very fragile, the paper is not a modern paper, I would love to see a date on them.

I haven't looked in fine detail but I think I did glance across rigging details, so I will definitely update ASAP but glancing in the 4" tubes I got with the plans there is a lot of timber in lengths, there was a part on the plan that specified mahogany and there is a few lengths of that, so I may well have a lot of the timber, all different sized sections, some as thin as veneer. So I shall look a lot closer as soon as I get a chance.

I have never embarked on anything even close to this, I am a bit shaky and the whole lot will probably go to scrap, if ever I get to do it.
    update soon.

Once again I really admire(understatement) your work Dalboy.
    regards
    Joel

Just take your time and take it one step at a time. It may be an idea to pick something a little less detailed just as a starter. I quite often sit in the evening planing what is being built the next day, this helps prevent problems.

This is good advice, As a carpenter I used to lay in bed sometimes for hours pondering the days work.
