    As for eyesight, I'm blind in one eye....toxoplasmosis scarring...but the other one is okay. My inspection magnifier at least makes all the parts big enough to see....

    My issue is nerves that pick the wrong times to twitch.....

    But that's okay.....it's still a lot of fun and it's nice to hear that people enjoy seeing the progress.

    Fancy that Jim. I lost my left eye when aged 6. Have no idea what it is like to
    have binocular vision. 3D Movies are a pointless exercise for me.

    I wear graduated multi-focal glasses and sometime find fine work a pain. I also
    have the beginnings of macular degeneration but I'm on top of that.

    Funny thing about being one eyed - the bloody opthalmologist doesn't give a discount!!!

    Phew there certainly a lot of ribs Jim the wings are taking shape just great, will not be long before you start the main fuselage

    Just followed you over from MSW to watch this build. Looks like you've made some great progress.

    What glue did you end up using on the engine parts?

    There are quite a few members in and around Canberra.....
    You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
    Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes; just like Jim's very fine build.

    Dalboy, Thanks! I probably won't be ordering 'ribs' for a while....

    Grant, Glad you found your way...lots of nice folks here as we'll. Not the numbers like MSW but fun just the same and for my sake, all the non-maritime builds now have a home.

    The glue I used for the engine is called GS hypo cement. It is used for jewelry and such. It has a set time a bit longer than most of the other glues but once it does dry, it holds about anything....I had considered epoxy as the recommended CA just didn't work very well. But the GS worked fine.

    Yep, I'm still plodding along......

    The bottom wing woodwork is complete......or so I thought....

    After setting the leading edge, adding the nose ribs and then giving it a coat of shellac, I was ready to start installing the compression bars.

    After drilling the 42 holes in the compression bars and then starting to lay them out for attachment, I noticed on the drawing that I had missed some bracing on the bottom wing. Oh well, I decided to finish the compression bars and then go back and install the missing braces. It may turn out to be a positive as the wing bracing cable threads through and around all the stuff so I'll be able to see what clearance is necessary by the braces.....(Good rationalization of a foul up, don't you think! )

    So I'm thru with the bottom wing compression bars......now to the top wing.....

    Be sure to read each section thoroughly before starting it.....some of the parts go one way on the top wing and the opposite way on the bottom wing.....haven't goofed that up......yet......

    Looking good Jim. Always good to "challenge" yourself by deliberately leaving parts off until later.

    Your "rationalization" only proves that it was a worthwhile deviation!

    Really enjoy watching this thread. Some very nice work. Reminds me of the days I use to build RC planes for my sun to fly when he was a kid. I never got good a flying them, so I build he flew.

    It turns out that my 'mistake' should be part of the instructions. I had to remove some of the bracing form the top wing when I started installing the compression bars.

    Build Note: Install the compression bars after all the struts are in place and before adding any wing bracing.

    Not a bad looking magnifier, Jim. I should buy a similar one myself. What's the focal length?
    I use a pair of high-magnification eyeglasses in conjunction with table lamps, but they only have a focal-length of about 8", a bit close for some things, like lathe work.

    Boy, those wings must be driving you crazy - so many tiny little bits and pieces. Looking forward to seeing the bracing cables & turnbuckles in place. (I'm sure that you are too.)

    Hermit,

    I did a focus test and have about 18"(inches) of clear focus. I've had the magnifier for a long time and don't remember the specs. It also has an add-on lens for real, real, real small things that I've not used......
    The small bits on the wings better not bother me too much as they are a pretty good sampling of the remaining detail..........

    Thanks for the visit. Another note...

    Build note: Be very aware of wing orientation.......when I started installing cables and turnbuckles with the wing held vertically in the vice I failed to recognize that I was looking at the reference drawing of the wing with the leading edge up while holding the wing in the vice with the leading edge down...

    Fortunately I noticed my 'slight error' with only a few turnbuckles installed......it could have been a disaster if any glue had been used.......
