Default Toys for Big Boys - working on the road

Here is a Cat road grader that I wanted to share. The last two I put a small block under the end of the blade to show that it will tilt left or right in addition to being able to rotate.

Very nice work indeed Big D, again, well done.......
Love photos number 3 & 4 as we can see some of the beautiful detail you've put into the grader.
Please, if possible could we have a few more close up photos of the rest of the grade, thank you.
    Cheers, crowie

I made one with plans from toys and joys.
I think yours turned out better than mine really nice work.
How did you make the handrails?
I had problems with that so i left them off.

The basic plans are from toys and joys, but I always draw every thing out in my CAD program and make changes until every thing suits me.

I did not like the way the plans called for the handrails, so I made mine from 12 Gauge copper wire:

I just bent them over various size wood blocks to get the various sizes:

A few more pictures showing more detail. First, a couple of shots showing the setup for making the cove cut in the blade, a sample with a piece of scrap and then the finished piece.

A few showing the setup for making the wheels. I made these a little different than the plans called for. The plans had the inside face of the wheels just flat, but I did not like that, so I made them recessed.

Now, a couple of the front end steering linkage:

Now one of the partially finished cab (note the drilled holes in the front corners for inserting the copper wire hand rails:

And last, a rear view of the assembled unit to show the radiator and hand rails:

Thank you "Big D".....much appreciate the WIP photos, notes and lesson...
It all helps to encourage and build confidence in some of us who struggle to start model projects [too many small parts, so much patience & attention to detail, with skill levels that are still developing]

I don't make toys & to be honest have no real interest in making toys. I just saw the thread headline & thought I'd take a quick look.

All I can say is .... wow ! That is soo good it blows my mind. It's unbelievabely good. You should be very proud of that creation, the detail is most impressive.

One thing is for certain, and that is that there are some seriously talented craftsmen/women on this forum.

    G'Day "Ozziespur",
While you're having a look at "Big D's" craftsmanship, please have a look through the rest of the toy & model makers as there are some awfully talented people from Australia & around the world who do brilliant work. Some of the blokes make models from a few photos that look like the real deal while others make toys for kids to have ours of fun and play.
    Cheers, crowie
