    Default Wheeled Excavator Scale 1:20

After spending the last month or so behind the computer, it is now time to go to the shop and make some sawdust.
I have decided to first build the wheeled excavator I modeled in sketch-up, and then made full size parts drawings in DraftSight.

    Liebherr_924.jpg009-005-001.JPG202.png

The model will be scale 1:20, which means that the model is supposed to be about length: 500 mm, 150 mm and 250 mm, when displayed as shown in the 3D picture.
As this is my first ever try at building a scale model, or even a toy, I will obvious make a lot of mistakes along the road.

I’ll try to do a WIP of the building process. I’m sure I need a lot of help from you great builders along the road.

    Thanks for looking.

Questions and opinions (con or pro) are welcome.

Please excuse if the writing doesn’t make sense, as English isn’t my native language.

    More to follow.

And now, out in the shop.

Looking forward to following your progress.
Likes like an interesting piece of machinery, should be fun to play with as a finished toy /model.

Thank you heaps Ole for taking the extra time & effort to show everyone how you build models in the "Centre of the World"... Denmark ... though a cold centre.

If your skills of building this match your skills of drawing it, then the outcome will be first class.
Looking forward to following the build.

Here you go Oneye, this is one I prepared earlier
I made this for my grandson last year, I had not seen a wheeled one either until I found these plans.
Looking forward to seeing your build Ole, the drawings are great.
    Cheers, Ian

G'Day Ian, That looks good enough to have it's very own thread with a stack more photos....

NOW I can't wait for Ole's, it's going to be way cool being an actual 1:20 scale model of a Liebherr....cheers, crowie

Thanks for the interest and the comments.
I managed to spend about 5 hours in the shop yesterday. Started out milling and cutting the parts for the chassis tree parts drilled holes for the axels and glued it together – the 1. drawing.
After that I began milling, cutting and drilling the parts for the outrigger, toolbox and ladder – all the parts shown in the 2.drawing.
Doing that, I realized that milling thin stock - 2 mm in thickness – isn’t that easy, so it took a good amount of time.

The hole for the turntable will is first to be drilled when the turntable is made. All parts are made from construction grade pine lumber. There are two reasons for that:
    1. As mentioned earlier, this is my very first try at this, and I don’t want to ruin some expensive wood in my fooling around.
    2. I do have pretty much of this stuff lying around.

I apologize for the missing photo, but my camera wouldn’t work – no power.

Dallas – I have been making construction drawings for the last 15 years.

Oneye – they are quite common in Denmark.

    Nanigai – Nice looking built.

    Well that’s all for now.

Off to the shop ( in Denmark a shed is used to store all that odd things one can’t find other places for, and I’m not an odd thing.

    Crowie.

Yes its all in danish at the moment, as I only use it to play with web-site construction at the moment. I have a plan of use it in the future, to offer modelplans to all you lovely modellers all over the world. But for the moment its only for my own fun.

I have not done much since the last entry, only milled some 50x1000 mm planks to the right thickness, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 mm. Next step is to cut all the parts for the dozer.

Here is some pictures of the project so far:

    P1040004.jpgP1040005.jpg
    Main frame glued up.

    P1020002.jpg
Parts for the outrigger and ladder ready to be cut on the scroll saw.

    P1020003.jpg
Same parts now cut out. I placed a ruler so you can get a feel for the size of the parts.

    That’s all for now.
