Default EasyCast Clear - post cure

    Hi folks,

Got some easycast clear polyurethane resin from Barnes last time I was there by mistake (got easycast vs epoxycast wrong). Thought I'd give it a whirl despite the annoyance of having to post-cure, and I have some blanks in an old electric frypan at ~55-60 degrees now.

I can't find any info on exactly how this stuff should be post-cured, just that it should be (and it was a bit gummy out of the moulds). Does anyone have any experience with this stuff or even other polyurethanes? Is my 55-60 about right?

    Cheers,

    Danny

Found it, I think. Looks like the suggestion is 66 C for 5-12 hours.

Surprised Polyurethane needs any post curing, the stuff usually goes off in minutes, but never used that brand before

It gelled and got hard enough to demould quite fast, but when I went to trim the ends the day after I discovered it was flexible and a bit gummy still. Might have been able to leave it for a few days but figured I should follow the instructions and post-cure!

So I played around some with some of the blanks from this, my guess of 55-63C for about 8 hours seems to have worked nicely - they cut and turn beautifully now. It doesn't sand quite as quickly as PR, and I almost messed up one blank because a deep cut didn't feel much different to a shallow one, but I'm quite happy with the resin!

Except the price I assume, last I looked into trying it apart from issues with very short set-up times, it was ~$80/l

Yeah, I won't be buying any more, but happy to use the rest of what I have... I like Barnes but in this case it would have been really nice if they used different coloured boxes for their different products for dumbasses like me!

These are two I turned from this batch of resin last night. I don't know if it's related to the resin type or some other factor, but I got much more luck getting a 'special effect' from perlex duo than I've had in previous attempts using casting resin.

Quick update on this resin. I've gotten happy with it, shame it's so expensive! After post-cure it's very hard (but doesn't seem to be brittle), and gives really good 'flash' from perlex (not sure how else to describe it, it's very bling-y). I might even buy some more of it when I run out, but will probably only use it for casting in resin saver moulds... It's too expensive otherwise.

Some pens from today with it:
