Default Clear epoxy resin to highlight the cracks&holes in old, now milled sleepers assistanc

I have a mate who has milled enough old railway sleepers to approx 150x40 to make a feature floor in his "Man Cave".

He wants to keep the character of the old railway sleepers and asked me if I know anything about clear epoxy resin to fill/highlight the cracks & holes.

He's also looking at adding some black in the spike holes so would need pigment too.

Well of course the forum is the font of all knowledge so please ladies & gents can you share your knowledge, experience and know how so I can pass it on, thank you.

    Cheers, crowie

As discussed, I recommend using Megapoxy HX, tinted as necessary with black pigment. Just be careful the underneath side of holes/cracks etc are sealed otherwise the resin will run through. It should be sanded as fine as practical before applying your final floor finish which will then turn it clear (or black if tinted).

    Hi Crowie

With the railway sleepers that I've played with, we have used techniglue 2 pack epoxy and added black oxide (cement colour)
This works a treat for filling any holes you want black.

As for the clear filling, I have a mate who is a boat builder that did this recently. Will try get some info off him. I haven't personally done any clear fill.

    Cheers
    Dirk
