Ok here is a WIP on how I am currently doing my feather blanks. I did 3, each using different feather types, so should cover most backyard casters . Even with WIP that tells you how you could do them, it will take a while for you to get the knack of gluing the feathers on in a way that looks good.
I also still recommend buying the blanks from the experts like Marla, as even though they may be expensive, it takes a lot of time and effort to get them right.
Cheers

Thanks Neil, downloaded and filed away for future use. Great tutorial. Easy to understand. I bet there will be more than a few copies of these instructions downloaded before too much longer. Nice of you to take the time to put this all together and share with other forumites.

Thanks for the WIP, It will give most a good starting point including myself and who knows between us all we may even be able to improve on the process over time.
Great stuff Neil. I know that this looks a bit complex and time consuming ,but the results are well worth the effort required ,thanks for such a clear and logical guide to the feathered blanks. Cheers ~ John
Wonderful WIP Neil. Not sure I'm ever going to have the courage to give it a go. Re your comment "I’d love to have a spray version, but I haven’t found one yet from Australia, the spray adhesives are either not water based, too weak, or use a nasty propellant that dissolves the paint or damages the feathers." It's most likely not the propellant but methylene chloride, which is in a lot of contact adhesives. Methylene chloride is also the active ingredient in a lot of paint strippers, or at least it was until it was realised it's not the friendliest chemical going around.

Thanks for the info
