Molds and 3 D Printer
Hi all me again,
A long story but in brief. My 11 year old brought a second hand 3 D Printer and after some time we repaired it and started churning out shapes.
Then the brain started thinking. How can I use this for good not evil. Hey what about cores for pen molds
A friend who's a wiz on 3 D design designed up some mold plugs and hey presto ...
I know this has probably been done many times over but I like the challenge. Next I'll buy some silicon and try to make a mold. Yer I know it's cheaper to buy one but hey I like a challenge.

Wow kids toys have come a long way.
That certainly looks easier than making them the old way of cutting, fitting and drilling everything. I'm making the assumption you are making these for your own use and you can probably keep track of them so my suggestion is to make the cap and barrel as separate parts. It has the benefit of not needing to have to saw them apart and if you ever clear cast something and one half has bubbles you only need to recast the piece needed. Did you think to print the name of the kind of pen they make in the core?

You are right. Much easier. Fortunately they are quick and easy to print. I will look at how to put the pen type in the mould.
I'm making them for my own use...
I am trying to perfect my Decal casting for Goggomobil's ... I'm hoping my own moulds last longer. I'm also going to trial a spray on mould release which might protect the silicon better.
When I get better with silicon moulding I will try make a block mould.

I don't know about how epoxy or Alumilite type resins react to the moulds but the Smooth-On MoldMax 30 tin cure silicon I use seem to be good for something like a hundred pours using PR without any mould release.
