    Default Ooiline Pepper Grinder Cast

I scored some Ooline timber at the local IWCS Xmas party (see QLD IWCS Xmas Meet - Wood Gloat) and decided, amongst other things, I would make a pepper grinder for the farm owner it comes from (to help lock in some possible future supply ). Unfortunately the farm is in desert country that has been all but cleared apart from the Ooline trees, so this tropical tree species that needs other surrounding trees is dying a slow death, and she has quite a few dead on ground trees (that need to be removed IMO ). I was also told she likes "Autumn"colours.

The block was only 50mm thick but one end had quite a few cracks and defects so decided to take 70mm slices and then cast in my 70x90x260 mold for my small pepper grinders. I mixed up some green/orange & yellow/copper Pearlex coloured epoxy casting resins representing live/dying/dead leaves. I initially didn't mix up enough resins so made some extra up in green, in hindsight I wished I had done orange instead, but too late now .

Split the mold this morning and then turned it down to round before giving it a quick coat of clear paint to see how it looks. More timber will become exposed as the grinder is turned down but I think it will look pretty good.

Don't be too hard on yourself, the green looks great to me. I'm sure she will be thrilled and your future supply will be safe..

    Cheers for sharing

Looks great Neil. It looks like the resin has penetrated the cracks and defects nicely.

Most of mine are usually 70-75 square (or dia 75mm) x 240 (small like these) or 340 (large) long. These have been turned down to 70mm dia to see how the resin mixing turned out
