    Default Peach/Nectarine Stone Casts

I eat a lot of Nectarines and Peaches and save the stones for casting. I made a small pepper grinder not so long ago out of the ones I saved (Nectarine/Peach pips Crushgrind Shaftless Pepper Grinder WIP) and have got a few orders to make more. It takes a full season of me eating them just to make one pepper grinder so I have been looking for other ways to source them.

I got a source from SPC in VIC that are good clean stones but unfortunately the majority are split into halves. Another source in QLD from old too ripe fruit, so are whole, but being fed to sheep (that then spit out the stones) are covered in dry bits of fruit plus the odd bit of green stuff. Below are my eaten ones, the sheep eaten ones, and the SPC halves

I prefer the wholes, but the sheep eaten ones take a lot of cleaning (6.5 hours for 6kgs worth), plus drilling to ensure the resin can get to the middle. The SPC halves avoid all this but I was worried in a cast they no longer look like fruit stones. For my previous pepper grinder cast I glued each stone individually to save stones but if I have plenty I want to avoid doing this and just pout them in a mold. I decided to dry, stabilise and cast up enough for some knife scale/pen blank blocks to see how they turn out.

Me personally I still prefer the wholes but interested in what others think.

As usual I had some left over resin so did a few other pen blanks, 3 Burdekin Plum stones, a Coastal Sheoak pod and a couple of coffee beans

Neil, I also prefer the whole ones but maybe the halves would look better if you had more in there?

The halves were jammed and vibrated in, they may look spaced out, but I can't get them any closer
