Just got my package from "sturina".

It is a Sn Gent, wrapped up in Huon Pine. What a beautiful wood, I see why it's your favorite, and its an amazing pen. It is done with a natural finish, which I love, it has a smooth silky feel.

The fit and finish is excellent. Stuart you are an Artisan. The package filler is perfect, I currently only have two of them in my wood collection.

I am getting caught up in the shop Stuart. I should have your pen to you by the deadline. I'm a little nervous, you have set a high bar for me."

    Thanks again.

What a beautiful piece of wood turned into a pen, Darrin, if ever I get to visit Canada you will have to super glue all the pens to the bench!!! Amos

    Thanks Mobyturns,

The pen and extra bits are great, it makes some of my efforts seem very amateurish. I am looking forward to using the extra bits I just hope I can do them the justice they deserve.
    Thanks again.2016-03-02 19.31.33.jpg

My Parcel Arrived from BamBam53 today

after tearing, well slicing the bag off the treasure that was sure to be inside - yes i was impatient

i found this amazing pen, i am not sure what the component set is, but i like it, my guess is that it is made from Swamp Kauri, only guessing using the blanks as a guide, and yes there was a number of different wood blanks included, i am sure Michael will fill us in

the finish is awesome and the wood has a sheen that changes with the light shining on it from different angles

Thanks Michael, your pen is on the way, it left last Friday so you should get it i the next couple of days

    all the best

    MIK
I should have included some details on the pen in the package.

The pen is a Penn State Industries Magnetic Cap Vertex in gun metal. You are right on with the timber, it is swamp Kauri from the same block as the blanks I sent. The finish is CA over boiled linseed oil to bring out the grain. I was told this swamp Kauri is about 4000 years old.
The other Kauri blanks labeled 'gum' are full of resin and are a bit like plastic to turn. Kauri gum was used in paints and adhesives last century.
The swamp Totara has been buried and changed from it's normal red / brown colour to black. It comes up well with a CA finish and has some spectacular grain.
The Black Maire is a hard New Zealand native timber. Again it has nice grain.

Your parcel arrived today and I must have been ripping it apart about the same time you got mine. The pen is fantastic and I will post some photos tomorrow.

I will have to turn the New Zealand flag castings pretty quickly. There is a referendum underway on changing the New Zealand flag and they may become obsolete.
