Guess I'm first cab off the rank.....

Got a ripper of a pen off Grommett today. It's a psi stratus kit. First time I've held one of these and I have to say that the click mechanism feels very solid - in fact, a pretty solid pen all round! It's made with purple gidgee and finished beautifully. A lot of care has been taken to get a great contrast between the sap/heartwood - showcasing the all important purple putter ring. Amazing job Michael!!
    I'm very grateful.
Along with the pen, a bundle of blanks so I'll have some fun turning that lot also!!

Very happy camper here, and it now sits on my desk ever ready when I need to write things down (funny how until now I didn't actually have a pen there....maybe like a mechanics car I guess)

    Cheers
    Gab

(Yours isn't far away Michael.....I am a bit slack)

Thanks for the organisation of putting this together Steve! Certainly a highlight of the year for me

    Hi All,

I received my swap from Bambam53 all the way from across the ditch.

A great pen with NZ Rimu timber on a Monogram pen kit. I also received some special blanks, really looking forward to using the 4000 year old swamp kauri.

Having lived across the ditch for 11years it brought back some memories seeing the timbers again.

Thanks Michael, your pack should arrive soon.

    Cheers
    Steve

Received my Swap from Gabriel, apologies for the tardy reply. It’s a beautiful mix of cast resin and Chittum (US) burl. Stunning. A nice collection of blanks sees me a happy camper.
Adding my thanks to Steve for organizing the swap.

Glad to hear that you like the pen. The pen is a gun metal spanner click with Tasmanian Native Olive timber.

    Cheers

    Thanks Brainstrust

The finish is CA. I sand the blank to 600 then give it a coat of boiled linseed oil. Wipe off the excess and then give it ten coats of thin CA. I am using Starbond odorless.
I leave the CA overnight to cure then polish it. Polishing is wet sanding with 400 wet and dry to remove any ridges, then 600, 800, 1200 and 2000. Last step is Brasso to bring up the gloss.
I found I could skip using Micromesh and get the same result with Brasso.

Interesting, I might just give that a try. Standard Brasso as in the metal cleaner???????

Yes. It is the metal polish Brasso. The same process works well on Acrylics.
