Default Pics of my pens from Dave Hodges (hobo1507)

What a great Easter suprise; I recieved my first ever swap pen in the mail today from Dave in the UK.

What an outstanding pen Dave! My excellent crafted pen is a Senior Gent with chrome fittings. The body and cap are made from Pau Rosa with laminates of Purple Heart and African Blackwood. The Purple Heart laminates have been cut and oriented so that both end and side grain are visible and can give a pearlescent effect according to how the light strikes it. Seperating the wooden laminates are shims of brass between the Purple Heart and nickel silver between the Blackwood. The section end of the body has an end cap of Blackwood separated with nickel silver shim, with the top of both cap and body having a thicker brass collar at the ends. The pen has been finished with multiple coats of CA then several coates of carnuba wax, with a final coat of renaissance wax to give a soft sheen.

Dave also included a gift for my partner - a slimline made of plum with a walnut centre band and chrome fittings. He didnt stop there sending me some awesome native English timber blanks: Ash, Spalted Beech, Sycamore, Burr Elm, Yew, Cherry, Laburnham and Cypress.

Thanks Dave, its been great being your swap partner.IMG_0813.jpgIMG_0814.jpgIMG_0818.jpgIMG_0821.jpgIMG_0836.jpgIMG_0831.jpgIMG_0843.jpg

Now I know that Dave has received the pen I made for him I can post some pics up as I know he hasn't posted yet.
The pen I made for Dave was a Pristina wrapped in Birds Eye Huon Pine. I finished the pen with 10 coats of CA followed by a Wet Look polish. The end result speaks for it self.

    Hey Rumnut,
I really like that pen kit and I am interested to know what it is like to write with comfort wise?
If you could let me know that would be great,

    Cheers Ben

    PS nice haul

Thanks for the pen Merril, I love that deep glass like shine (wish I could get a finish like that), also thanks for posting the pics.

    Dave.

The final chapter came about for my swap this year, I received a package from Stacey in Hawaii with a beautiful segmented pen, made from Curly Koa and white resin (?), along with some great looking blanks. I don't have any of these timbers in my collection until now.
I am intrigued about the blue one on the right hand side of the 2nd pic, I am guessing its dyed and stabilised timber of some sort. Hopefully Stacey will chime in, and let us know what it is.

Hey Paul, the Panache is a nice looking pen, and lends itself to being quite broad in the hand reducing rapidly at the transition to the nib (similar to the Vertex).
I find it OK although I have only drivennit breifly, but SHMBO wasn't comfortable with it (which means she leave it alone). Hope this helps.
    Regards Rumnut.

Default My pens from wood hacker

There have been some great pens posted in this thread and I am very fortunate to have received a package from wood hacker that is right up with the very best of them. The time and effort that Bruce has put in to this is very much appreciated.

The pens and letter opener are superbly made from Qld maple and ironbark with aluminium inserts, the fitting and finish is absolutely flawless. Bruce made the box using Qld maple for the sides with ironbark keys, the top and base are red cedar and again the workmanship is first class. There is also a selection of blanks that I look forward to using, the bar to match the quality of what I received is high but I will enjoy trying to close the gap a tad using Bruce's work as an example.

Yep I am really stoked with what Bruce has sent, my wife is equally as impressed as are the girls in her craft group, he has won himself a little fan club.

    Default From Mack

    Howdy all

Some nice, sorry, brilliant pens there!

I received this one from Mack in Ontario a couple of days ago

    MackC_6662.jpgMackC_6667.jpg

Extremely nice pen, interesting shaped kit and the cherry burl is brilliant

    MackC_6671.jpg

Mack also sent across a couple of blanks (from bottom Bocote, Box Elder burl with orange gold acrylic, Jack Daniels, Osage Orange, Bethlehem Olive, and a patriotic green and gold acrylic)
and ... a pelican centre finder

Mack, thanks very much for being my partner
and I'll make sure I'm not driving after I turn that Jack Daniels blank
