Men's Shed Ideas
I'm an active member of the Men's Shed in Sussex Inlet NSW. Our Shed was opened in September. Approx 60 members down from our original 150 but took it's toll during the building as Council deemed it to be a building site and only allowed people with green cards. Building (Hebal walls) took approx 14 months to complete now we have a drive to get our membership back up.Shed approx. 30m x 15m with a 3 m welding area under the main roof outside. We have a Horticultural section with Hot house and Hardening up house with the usual hot beds, mist sprayers etc. Plant sales are booming with approx 2-$300 per month coming in. Our next project along this line is garden allotments (60) Lands Dept have given approval just waiting for DA from Council.
IDEAS
We have an OUTREACH PROGRAM where we have men from the local nursing home come to the shed fortnightly for a morning. What we do is varied a some have dementure but they love coming and talking and participating. I need Ideas to keep them active. I am currently building a mobile tool kit to take to the nursing home for those men who won't come. any Project ideas. I run wood work classes at the local Public school any Project Ideas.
Who thought retirement would be boring.

Hi David.
Firstly, congratulations to all the chaps at your shed.
I had a look at your web site and what you have and are achieving, is a credit for your participants.
As for your question of involving chaps from your local nursing home.
Is there any possibility of a "mini" shed being available on the nursing home site.
Perhaps an unused garage or other building, where your chaps could set up and encourage the residents to participate 1 day a week.
It looks like you have the numbers to find a couple of blokes to run this, in conjunction with the nursing home.
Sheds drive themselves, so those nursing home chaps will let you know what they want.
Just my 1c worth, to a tricky question.
Paul.
Coordinator.

G'day David,
I'm setting up a simular program in the Hunter Valley, thought the guys would like to make dominos and get the kids from the local school to come and play.....The kids get to take the dominos back....so they need to make more dominos, knots and crosses etc. If they were able they can make some for the nursing home. Would love to catch up and swap ideas. [email protected]
