Its looking really good Steve, I like that your recycling the timber from pallets to build a functional workbench. Look forward to your WIP.

Al .

Thanks for all the comments and support.
Yes the metal detector was in overdrive.
I was lucky as these pallets contained massive pieces of timber even though it was only pine but very good 'German' pine.
Yes a thickky is very handy but....did all the pieces for the top, glued and clamped so the Titanic couldn't get away but.....it racked itself, only a copule of mils but a PITA.
So it's make a router sled or out with the good old No 7 and 1 human power.
Hopefully more this weekend (the legs) as the kids will be with me. It's fun watching my youngest boy (7yo) on the chisel mortiser. (Not quiet tall or heavy enough yet...dangling from the handle...try and get some photos of him)
11yo daughter loves the sander.....(one less job for me)
But the real problem comes as both love the glueup stage....not the timber but each other. Going to have to keep a special eye on them as this time is the polyurethane glue in use.

Ray,
Been rather busy as of late. The pics are still in the camera but it's now in Canberra.
No he's not Robbin Hood he is the worlds biggest termite. Loves drilling holes in what ever he can get his hands on.
His real name is Blake but from about 8 months old he answerd to Monster and is now stuck with it.

Ah school excursion time eh..........wonder how well he deletes photos from camera. There is software available to recover unless written over 3 or 4 times.
I believe my 4 yr old grandson is a dab hand with a battery saw I have been asked to keep all off cuts my son is running out of stuff to give him fast.
Poor kid will have a complex with name like that..............ooops read that as Munster

I told you lot this was a slow build....but daughter had to get her assignment done...so the weekend was full steam ahead plus I had yesterday off
Over the past few weekend I've managed to get all the mortices and tenons done. Thicknessed more timber for the rails and stiles and other bits.
So friday afternoon (kids home from school) was dry fit time (first 3 photos)
Saturday and sunday was glueup time (next 3) Didn't get any of it fully clamped up. (She was taking all the photos so I think my camera didn't get much of a look in as hers)
Then yesterday was excess glue removal, sand, more bracing and I started the waxing but haven't finished yet so no pic of that.
So now it's the last bit of bracing and then flattening the top, a bit of routing and attach it ..... the vice, dog holes .. the list goes on.

Thanks Ray.
If you look in photos 7 & 8 you'll see there is a small extension shed attached to the back of the main shed and yes you can't move in there.
Once the bench is built a massive cleanup/rearrangment will have to happen.
At the moment I'm looking for a couple more old melamine wardrobes/cupboards (geez they store a lot of stuff)
Will have the kids again this weekend so they can sand and wax. Then will have a go at the top.
Will have to measure how much it warped and the decide what to do.

It's more of a burnt red, but I suspect that doesn't help a lot Enjoying the build. Looks good.
