The criss cross was easier to install than I expected. It was time consuming to excavate the two trenches but it was worth the effort. The instructions provided by Benchcrafted were very good and easy to follow. The really crucial bit in the process was getting the layout right and then drilling exactly where marked. Without a reliable drill press it isn't a task I would be particularly keen to attempt. I got my holes in the right spots with the criss cross but I missed with one of the ones on the vise screw nut by about 1 mm and ended up having to drill out the mounting hole in the nut.

Now that's a good work bench. As you are back at Uni I think it might be a little while before you use it. I might suggest it not be used as a place to store things on as most work benches have a habit of doing.
