Hi Ian.
We must live within an hour or so of each other, so from my knowledge, jacking/levelling castors are available, but I have only ever seen them available from Europe. (online searching, as Id considered a similar approach to a problem recently) Not only are they very expensive ($150 ish each) the postage would be as you say, excessive.

The are basically a trailer jockey wheel, the difference being they side mount onto a leg (for example) and the winder is mounted on the side. (vertical winding) Maybe you could find some cheap jockey wheels (BCF have them for $40 each) and remove the winder and use a socket or cordless drill to wind them?

I personally, would either make up some sort of contraption that does the same job using normal casters. But..... I really enjoy designing these sorts of contraptions. Even if they cost me more than a standard item. If that sort of thing is not for you, just cut a bit off the bottom of the legs and use heavy duty lockable swivel castors. Still pretty expensive no matter how you do it.

Timbernut had a pretty good solution for this, with some castors that folded up. He posted in this thread:

I want to put wheels on that jack it up so I can move it, then release the wheels so those 6x6 legs can do their job properly. But I can't find any.

I saw the screw adjustable castors at Swanson Engineering Supplies a while ago so they are available in Aust but very expensive.

They only had one on display but said that they could get more.

I'm building a workbench and found a set of foot operated castors from Hare & Forbes / Machinery House :

I bought them online for about $90 for a set of 4 including delivery when they had a special one day (I am in Adelaide).

The set of 4 is rated to 252kg.

I have yet to install them (the workbench build is taking longer than I hoped....) so I am not able to comment on how they work in practice.

My bench moving is very low tech and low cost. Just a leaver to lift one end of the bench then wheel a stick with 2 castors under that end. Repeat at other end. I think the wheels cost about $5 each at the time. Gets the job done. I do like the look of those wheels from Hare and Forbes so thinking I may upgrade to those. I was not aware of them when I built the bench.
