Whilst I'd dearly love to claim the bench as my own invention, it is as mic-d has said derived from a design. It did allude to this in my original post, but I couldn't recall the magazine which is "Fine Woodworking."

They refer to requiring six pipe clamps, which I bought, but you only need four pairs. Two full pairs for the long vice, One pair of threaded ends for the side vice (face?) and the remaining two clamps for the adjustable "planing shelf."

I used very old 3/4" pipe from our laundry and in places it is not quite round because of of over enthusiastic use of the stilsons. Occasionally they catch.

My recommendation is to treat youself to two new pieces or at least double check for round.

Great function bench mate. For the people who are interested in this bench here is a video of the guy who designed it.for FW New-Fangled Workbench, Revisited - Fine Woodworking Video

A bit of a shame to have left it behind.

Sadly, when my Mum sold the property after my Dad died, his 6m bench was left in the shed. I didn't have room in the trailer to bring it down with me. So I meticulously copied the dimensions and recreated it down here.

I just had a look at the video. Most interesting. There are a few ways to use the bench that I had not thought of. Anybody interested in this style of bench should definitely view it.

My useage is a little restricted as the bench is jammed in a corner and this really is one bench that should be in the middle of the workshop. When I get the new shed......

Thing is, my Dad cut the bench down by 1m to move it out of the the workshop in the first house to move into the shed at the next place.
