| |  Big workbench
Not strictly speaking a woodworking bench but I will probably distress the odd bit of timber on it 
3600mm long, 930mm wide and about 930mm high.
Legs are 90x90 treated pine, all other framing is 90x45 MGP10. Top is a sheet of particle board flooring (Red Tongue, 22mm thick).
I have another sheet of the particle board flooring that will probably end up as a shelf on the lower support. A few drawers would be useful too.
I only finished it off this morning and it's already cluttered.

Nice work. I like the way you have made the red tongue sit flush with the pine(?) bench edge. Nice size too. I'm building a couple of benches this week so thanks for the post.

Nice workbench.
I would not exactly agree on the words of clutter more the words of sorting or organizing. |

Should have stayed in the shed and tidied up.
Instead I decided to dig out the path to the veggie garden to install some sleeper steps. Managed to damage the water pipe to the veggie garden tap! 
A few minutes with the heat gun and a clamp should see it last a few days until I can repair properly.

Mess is well under way!
After a bit more reading here, I think I should have checked in the top rail to the legs to provide more support. The tabletop does sit directly on the top of the legs so I don't expect the bolts to break but it's something I'll think about for the lathe bench.

Just as well I made the bench out of flooring i.e. waterproof. Today had some heavy rain which cam in through the top of the shed wall where the windows are.
Bench was soaked as were a few tools on the bench, Tools are all safe and dry but it's going to take a while for the bench frame to dry. The bench surface was fine, the water just rolls off as it's a wax finish.
Must chase up the friend with some spare Laserlite so I can fix those windows!

At last I see a work bench of a practical length!
Is there a reason for it to be against the wall? I made one like that. I regret the location but little choice.
The solution for me was an island bench for 4 Delta tools: 10" miter saw, 8" drill press, table top band saw and scroll saw. Half a dozen x 12mm holes to move a spring loaded/articulated arm type lamp from job to job. Good set up for doing the hog work to start wood carvings. |

I am building a 4 metre by 1 metre bench not from pristine timber al planed and level but building sites it is cheap it so very practical and it is big.. Like Robson Valley it will run down the middle of my long narrow workshop and has dowelling dog holes to allow me to level square and hold any item. |

Against another wall in my shop is a top-loading deep freeze. might be 2m long.
Guess what?
Lovely white lid/top.
So, I took a black felt marker and put a grid of lines on the top.
It has become a nice spot for the assembly of things theoretically needing to be square.
marx: any reason to make one bench? That's quite a piece if you should need to keep moving from one side to another.
Still, 4m x 1m will be a relief! | | |
