Quite an idea to have a slide out wall build into a cabinet. Making use of space that would otherwise not be used.

Thanks guys. I should have mentioned that there'll be another "secret" slide out 'drawer' when the base is fitted, The base will hold one of my bench grinders (the fine sharpening one) and under that base will be a slide out tray which will hold my sharpening stones. Plus there's another shelf going in which will hold the dressing stones for the grinder.
That should be it then, but I never know what else could happen until it's finally done and mounted.
Cheers,
Bob

Slow going..........not really.......dead stop actually.
Hi Guys,
I'm sorry I have nothing to report or show of my bench progress because, well, there hasn't been any........nothing at all!
There is a good reason though, at least I hope it's acceptable.
Early August, I bought an old 92 Holden Statesman from my closest friend up Sydney way.....Miranda actually. Reason being was that a few months prior to this he was sent to hospital with, as it turned out.....cancer of his colon. Though once they operated, it was worse than expected.......it's never better unfortunately.
So, long story short, They had to remove a substantial length of his colon. He was in hospital for quite a long time while not being allowed to eat, and we were all holding our breath hoping for the best.
Upon being released, he was a shell of his former self, being a year younger than I, he looked so much older after that ordeal. After weeks off work where he used up every day off he had, and then some, he eventually was allowed back to work and the prognosis was good.
As I'm sure you all remember, the National R U OK? Day on the 11th of this month, and who was the first to call me? My best friend called ME to see if I was OK.!
We chatted for a while and he sounded as cheery as always, but I could tell something was not quite right. And as it turned out I was unfortunately correct. His cancer had returned and he was receiving chemotherapy every two weeks for it. When I pressed him for more info, he clammed up and said he was doing alright, but I knew he was fibbing.
After a later call that day from a mutual friend, I discovered just how bad the cancer had returned. So, during consequent calls to check up on him, he told me he was selling his beloved Statesman to pay the bills and make up for lost wages, because he had to pay back the extra days he was off work.
It was then I told him I would buy it from him even though I hardly needed another car on a farm, especially one like this.
So guys, this is the reason I've not been near my wood working tools since then. I have gutted the car internally for a completely new interior....carpets, seats, trim from a Caprise, new stereo system, completely re-upholstered seats, door rubbers, as well as colour sanding and buffing the entire exterior of the car to bring the paint back to new again as well as painting away all the nicks and dings. New spoilers, front and back, HID headlights and driving lights, LEDs replace every globe in the car and then to top it all off, new, bigger mag wheels and tyres.
I'm trying to get this all done ASAP for obvious reasons, as well as the fact that the Bathurst V8 car races are coming up soon and I want it finished by then so I can bring the car up to show him then, as we always spend that day together in his garage and watch the race with friends and have a BBQ going most of the day.
It will be on that day that I will then be giving the car back to him.....because he is my friend.
Regards,
Bob
ps....it's never too late to call a friend and ask.....R U OK?

Bob, I agree with Danny, you are a great mate.
Over the last five years I have lost my two best mates, one from school days, the other from 1955.
I miss them.

Thanks very much for your kind words of encouragement guys. As you can well imagine, I've been pretty flat out pulling things apart and putting them back together again. I like the pulling apart better though.
I've been madly trolling Ebay for all the nice new parts and neat new goodies I need to make this the special car I want it to be for a very special friend.
I just plonked down over $1,000 for new carpets and upholstery.
Doing this has brought back many memories of when I used to do this on my own cars way back when. So I'm sort of getting something out of this process too.
The new 18" wheels and tyres have arrived, but they'll be the last things to go on. I spent this arvo detailing the headlights because they weren't sitting correctly. Sort of makes me think I'm sitting there sanding wood instead I'm scraping old bits of glue out of the joints in the h/l glass.
Anyhow, I'm taking pics as I go and will post them soon although I might have to start a thread over in the cars section to keep everyone happy.
Cheers,
Bob
