I'm taking a seat too. Love it when building a bench out of recycled timber. It's a second lease of life for it.

You did that after only a week of using sketch up, color me impressed!

Very impressed. A couple of suggestions, if I may.
The shelf below the bench seems to have a raised surround. This will make cleaning out inconvenient. I'd suggest having at least one side without a raised edge.
Blind tenons holding the top on will make it difficult to remove the top if, after a few years, you need to have it run through a drum sander to re-flatten it.
Does it have an end vice? Very useful, and if it does, it's worth having dog-holes front & back of the bench, and in the end vice, so that long jobs can be clamped up.

It looks like a nice, solid bench, and I like the support for long jobs. Does this slide? Looks like it.

Once you get your head around how it thinks, it's not too bad.

EDIT: As soon as I clicked submit, it dawned on me Pat. Yes I will, but not for a while unfortunately.

I think your suggestion with the shelf is a good one, thanks.

It will have a HNT Gordon tail vice, dog holes will be added toward the end of the build, there are a few in the pic, but hard to see because of the angle.

The deadman will slide, although I a blog post by Chris Scharwz shows an interesting bench with a fixed deadman that is pretty cool.

I can't see any other way of holding the top on that will be good and stout, I could put battens under the top and use screws, but that seems like a lot of shearing forces being applied to wood screws. At this stage I reckon I'll stick with the blind tenons (I've got heaps of planes)

I'll be pulling up a chair as well. Looks really good Adam.
My bench top sits on blind tennons and it doesn't move at all. They're reasonably snug but you can still lift the top off if you are feeling really strong.

Sure is (both of them)

Just love bench builds so watching with intrest. It does not matter how well you plan your bench cause you always see something in another bench build that wish you had done. Is that bench envy?
The ability to come apart for future moves is well worth building in. I used normal bolts as bed bolts are hard to find and expensive.

Alex, the tail vise looks like this:

John, not only are bed bolts expensive and hard to find, I can only find 6mm in Australia, have to go to LV or Benchcrafted for bigger ones.

I have access to a lathe and mill. I'm going to make my barrel nuts so I can have them the dimension I want (made from 25mm round bar fitted into a 1" hole for nice tight fit, but not too tight.

Another member of the fan club has just signed in!!

Oh to have a thicknesser ! But then standing in a mountain of fresh shavings, after hearing the sweet schick, schick sound of a sharp plane and working up a warm sweat on a cold night in the garage wouldn't be the same would it ?

I'll pull up a chair & watch also. I like that there are a lot of current bench builds underway (besides mine).

Always interesting to see other bench builds.
