Good question. I debated it. There was a job I was doing to other day where it would have come in handy. (Though I can't remember what it was now.) A wonderpup or two may be better as they would allow the wood to be supported on the bench. Also, I'm trying to minimise the number of holes to those that I will use.

What are your thoughts on it?

I need a place to store the parallel guide pins (seen here in dog holes.) I wanted this to be in the lower stretcher but with the top on I couldn't fit the drill in.
How about an eyelet (or a home made one) on the edge/side of the vice (chop?)?

I had the option to remove the joint, clean it and re-set it. However as I used titebond III it will make a mess even if I drill out the wedges. I thought of inlaying the inside corner with a metal brace. I'll need to adjust the leg mortise.

I'm not keen to remake the parallel guide as there is a lot of drilling involved and a decorative end piece.

How would you make this joint different if you were starting again?

I like it. Would be easy enough and keep it near by.

Not sure. I ensure a good tight fit (it wasn't bad but could be improved). The wedges are a good way to go. (I know some people use dowel through the sides). Perhaps twin tenons would help reduce racking force.

I'd just like to say that that's a very nice bench you got there, seems very versatile.

Seems also that the sliding vice it's worth the effort you put into it. You know what they say: "there are no shortcuts to any place worth going". So true! I think you've done yourself a favour by making this thing ... I still haven't done "the bench build," and reading through the whole thread, and also Groggy's WIP, I think I'll have to get on to it. I realise now that I'm committed enough to this woodworking thing, it's inevitable that I'll have to do "the bench" some time soon ... First step, some lovely, good & dry timber!

    Thanks Dan.

Big fan of your work Dan.
I'm going to embark on a similar journey in the next few months and am just trying to finalise my design (only in my head at this stage, well and in bits and pieces throughout Chris Schwarz's latest book). So now that you've had a while to use all of that gorgeous iron and wood how do you find the Benchcrafted leg and end vices?
I initially bought a Veritas twin-screw, and recently dragged a Veritas quick-release end vice back from the US (with a whole heap of other tools much to my wife's eternal joy as she had to pack around two 24" Bessey clamps), but given that I'm shaping to build a similar bench to you (ie overbuilt with big laminated top on half-a-tree legs) I don't think that they'll be suitable (and might be for sale on here soon. And with the AUD rather high, right now might be the time to buy some Benchcrafted metal.
Not too sure how much progress I'll be making with my 1st bub due in August (open question, does a router drown out a child's cry?), but a man has to have goals.
    Cheers
