Think of your bench as a giant holding jig or clamp. I would not use wax or a film finish. Would look great, feel great but wouldn't work as well.
Danish oil is fine. You can make your own with equal parts BLO, varnish and mineral spirits.

Excellent work fella!
Re the finish, Boz blackhorse have said it all really. Less is more. I'll be using plain BLO on mine."Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."

Base complete
Ive finished my base structure, nearing end of completion for drawboring. 2mm offset works well I also fried my sander no idea how tho..
Next week
Route sliding dead mans groove 16mm x 25mm deep on the top
Mark out leg mortises on the top, then start drilling.
Cheers

Mate, this thread is only three months old. By bench building standards around this place this is pratically a lightning strike completion. Mine will be coming up on it's first birthday soon and I haven't made any more progress than you have. Groggy's will be three years old soon and it not finished!

I second these views. A workbench can take a very long time to make (I should know, mine is still an unfinished top)

I made a quick and dirty temp workbench about 35 years ago. It was to help with our first house renos. Guess what?

Getting there
G'day all
I have a deadline so im getting pressured to finish soon but i wont rush and do a half a job
Today, i have dry fitted the top to the base structure and drilled the holes to begin draw boring the top to base.Im exited to let my bench stand by itself tomorrow i feel sorry for the saw horses to hold all that weight
Im glad people are enjoying my progress this has been the best and first thing i actually built so rewarding i still have a few more accessories to put on so its not done yet
I have posted some new pics and will post more tomorrow
cheers Teakman
