    Close together I assume you mean to limit thread of clamp between dog and work piece?

    My only other thought would be to use timber shims and see if square ir angled makes a difference (as well as snug dog holes)

    Even kreg dig clamps have a tendency to lift the work off the bench from youtube videos I have seen. I don't think it is a case of brand.
